I just started SETI@home last night and today. Just wondering how do I get credits? I have a couple of tasks and they are all In Progress. Whats does that mean. Will I get the credits for those tasks?

Credits are awarded for completed and validated work. Once you return a workunit, S@H waits for it to also be returned by a second user (your "wingman"), and if the results are sufficiently similar, credit is awarded to both of you.

I see you've had 5 workunits validated so far, for a total of 204 credits.

I recently put a new computer online. At first I could not get it connected to my account and it ran in isolation By the time I got the problem solved it had finished 3617 work units. Is there any way that I can merge those two accounts and get those units credited to my grand total. If you go to accounts, internet infidels, you will see me in first and eighth places.

No, BOINC accounts cannot be merged, as was explained to you in your Number Crunching thread "Difficulty of getting help", where Arkayn said to you in message 1204336:

Unfortunately there is no way to combine accounts so you will have to remove SETI from that machine and reconnect using the email account that you are posting from.

As a way to see your performance vs. others in the project. Otherwise, nothing at all.

Good evening I am new user and im downloading 3 projects which state that they are in progress, its only been about 4 hours since downloading BOINC. I am very interested in this project and would like to know it better and understand the dates in my (in progress) mean, and what can I do to be efficient and understand what I am requested to do to maintain a good reputation.

Thank you

All you need to do is run the tasks to completion before the due date. BOINC will upload them and report the results to S@H automatically, and download new work as needed.

Credits should get something, say 1,000,000 credits gets a SETI@home t-shirt. Now you might think this is a bad way to spend money but the more people wearing cool looking SETI@HOME t-shirts the more people will ask "how did you get that?" and the more users will follow and the more users the more donations. T-Shirts are pretty cheap in bulk with designs screened in in some cases less than 2 bucks each. A little promotion would help a great deal.

They need to make sure they have the infrastructure in place to support more users first.

What should the T-shirt say? "I earned 16 million credits and all I got was this lousy SETI@Home T-shirt"?

Perfect.

(I think the users should buy t-shirts if they want them however. The project doesn't have money for that. Put someone in charge of selling t-shirts with credits bragging rights. And maybe seti@home should supply one t-shirt a year to whoever has or has earned the most credits that year)

I have no wing man will my credit be posted? Didn't know I needed a wing man. I have started on my third project.

Thank you for your help,

Sure you do. Look at this task. You've completed it, your wingman is still working. When he reports, if the workunits validate, you'll both get credit.

Every workunit you get is also assigned to a second computer. Sometimes, it might be, over time, assigned to one or two more if the first one(s) don't return it in a timely manner. It takes a minimum of two similar results to constitute a quorum for validation.

Your wingman may be different for each task. You currently have 3 tasks showing on the web site. 2 of which you have not completed and your wingman has. One of which you have completed and are awaiting completion by your wingman.
