This is on my daughters PC and I have only just installed the card but it is registered there. Here is the link to here PC http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/hosts_user.php?userid=9431135 I imagine it was only a problem with 3x and 4x cards. I have seen more than one 5450 running OpenCL apps. Also with older drivers. ____________

Maybe I'll see if this works on the HD6370 in my notebook as well. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

Sure not the apps. | |

Sure not the apps. I went ahead and fired it up on my notebook and it seems to be moving right along. I'm pretty sure I trashed the first one, but that was my fault. So we can see how the next 3 do. I have since set NNT. As the notebook doesn't have any thermal monitoring for the GPU nor is there a separate cooling fan. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

The overnight news is once the PC was shutdown for it's overnight rest it's seemed to lose OpenCL I don't see any reason for it and I am 100% certain it's not a BOINC issue but a driver issue! I will seaarch out some older drivers and try those!

I have been looking through the web and found that people do have a problem with this happening. So I ran a program that removes the install information (after un-installation) to remove any pointers to corrupt files and settings! This seemed to do the trick! I am now testing the PC again for any further defective drivers and OPenCL problems! I did notice that ATI have released an openCL update which is on the Lunatics website so if this fails again I will try using that version instead.

So, you have now installed the drivers again, and shutdown and restarted the computer a couple of times, and the GPU still works and is running an ATI OpenCL work unit? It may not be enough to reboot it, a cold restart may sometimes be needed to find out if it still drops the drivers. ____________ /The grumpy old Swede. I have cold rebooted a few times with no loss, so hopefully this will work! The major test is an overnight shutdown.

Does the GPU just not show up in BOINC or does OpenCL stop working in some way? When you say there is an OpenCL update what are you referring to? I don't see any mention of it on the amd or lunatics websites. In other news the four I did are complete. One validated against a Nvidia GPU where we both got -9. So hopefully that is actually a noisy one. One of the two that ran for 4-5 hours is paired with a machine is only has about a 7% valid rate. So that one will probably take a while to confirm. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

A longer shutdown like over the night really should not make any difference is it works with a shutdown, and then a restart. Preliminary congratulations I'd say :-) ____________ /The grumpy old Swede. "I'm so old, that 98% of all trees in the forest, are younger than I am"

Thanks Sten but I am not 100% confident in the AMD card as they seem to lack a little something and AMD seem to always mess up their drivers! Nvidia don't seem to have a problem like AMD does. I of course may change my mind upon the results etc.

I of course may change my mind upon the results etc. I've been using ATI cards since the first Radeon. I like to refer to these "problems" as a tradition. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

HAL lol, you're a bit of an AMD/ATI dinosaur then :) Seems strange that they cannot get their act together like Nvidia! Especially as they are now made by AMD.

I have had their cards in other machines or work boxes over the years. Once of the most amusing things they did was release a driver that trashed the system when you installed it. I had that across multiple machines with different cards in different OS's when setting up test machines at work. IIRC it was around the 154.xx driver release time frame. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

Incidentally, I am running Lunatics as mentioned in my earlier posts, which should not work but does as using any other settings fail. I am keeping everything I can cross crossed! I have Private message from Raistmer (the programmer of OpenCL apps) I think this message is not secret so I share it: BilBg: Subject: OpenCL_r390 + Max work group size 128 - seems to work OK You can see the clues here: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=67202&nowrap=true#1204712 http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/result.php?resultid=2344581713 Raistmer: Hi. The problems only with HD4xxx GPUs and some weird lockups our testers see time to time. In general it should work indeed. ____________ - ALF - "Find out what you don't do well ..... then don't do it!" :)

Ah so it looks like I have the correct configuration now! lets see what happens when the PC goes off later!

Ah so it looks like I have the correct configuration now! lets see what happens when the PC goes off later! Luckily I am not seeing any issue like that. I just have the problem of once windows disables the display the GPU clocks down. Since this is in a notebook I'm not leaving the display on 24/7. Once I get all of the GPU tasks out my lappy wont be running it anymore, but good to see it works. Hopefully they will update the release notes with the next installer release. ____________ SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours Join the BP6/VP6 User Group today!

Ah so it looks like I have the correct configuration now! lets see what happens when the PC goes off later! If somebody could fill me in into what exactly needs to be updated? I'm not omniscient and I don't run ATI so I don't have first hand knowledge of the traps. If nobody tells me what needs updating and with what, updates don't happen. ____________ I'm not the Pope.
