inside the teams themselves, how is the raking of users determined?

They are currently unsorted which means it spits them out in whatever order the database returns. I know on our team, it looked like it was ordered but total credit under seti@home classic. This is probably just a result of how they imported the classic accounts into the BOINC tables. If you want to be able to sort team members, you will have to go to 3rd party stats sites such as my own or the SS stats that you seem to have found for your sig graphic.

It is sorted by Account Number.
That is determined by:
Seti@Home accounts sorted by number of WUs processed at the time of the first data splurge..
followed by New Accounts sequencially as created.

Thats why it often looks like number of results, because the hi-powered S@H users are often the hi-powered BOINC users.
