Obliterated. 0_0 Are they sure they used a GTX 680, and not a Voodoo 3?

I guess that we'll just have to wait and see on that score but usually they are correct most times.

Cheers.

On paper it didn't look that impressive either. Seems more like this should be a 640 or something instead of one of the top of the line cards. Unless they thing they are going to turn around and pull of 700's out of their hat.

We'll have to see what Nvidia's partners do then.

I´m not very impressed compared to 7970.
The 680 might be better for crunching but ......

The prices on the cards this year are crazy. What's the point of getting a $600 card when some GTX 580s are now below $400?

In theory the 680 should be twice as good @seti than the 580 and it's TDP is 50W less to boot. So for Seti at least, these should be a no-brainer.

But like I said... in theory.

Initial cost might be lower but longer its not. Less power hungry means less electricity bill.

You do have a point there. Plus I could possibly get a couple hundred back from selling my GTX 560Ti.

They nerfed Kepler compute units for faster graphics. It will be no better than 580.

It will be interesting to see how it actually performs with Seti, as the Seti application isn't OpenCL based (AFAIK). The one compute benchmark that wasn't OpenCL based the 680 took the lead, by a significant amount.
Of course the GPUs built for compute work will be faster still...

Both stock and x41u are CUDA MB apps. There is a OpenCL for NVidia AP 6.01 app [public beta release pending].

We'll see how they perform very soon. A few people seem to be eyeing the road for the parcel van.

OpenCL and CUDA are two COMPLETELY different kettle of fish.

Yes there is a MB OpenCL app for NVidia and it's in alpha for a good reason. Fred you are running something horribly outdated! If Raistmer didn't do an NVidia version of r390, tough luck, but r365 should be pulled!
Do us all a favour and run x41g.

I expect this version of a 680 should help those benchmarks.

Well trying the 680 now and not much change from the 580.

Does a gpu task in around 3m 10s - the 580 would take about 3m 40s so 30s faster!

Got to run a long test shortly for GPUGRID which might be more interesting re. time it takes as last test (on the 580) took 5hrs 47m to do one that was marked as 6-8hrs.
