As my title states, is it possible? I've decided to have Seti run on a computer I rarely use. I currently have two computers crunching. I want to move my credits from my newer computer to the older one. If I delete Seti program from my newer computer, do I lose those credits? Thanks for all the help. |

No. Moving work from one computer to another is not possible (with one exception). In Classic, people used this as a part of a credit cheat. * The exception. If you are replacing one computer with another, you may move the entire BOINC data directory from the old computer to the new computer, and point the install at the location on the new computer. Once this is done, the old computer is retired in favor of the new computer. The actual ID used is a part of the data directory, and is known at the server. If the server sees two identical computer IDs, it will assign new numbers to one or the other, and reject the work from the one that was moved to a new ID once it arrives at the server. It is also possible (but so much work that every one that has tried it has quit) to have two installs of BOINC on machine A which is connected to the internet. One of which is really for machine B. The instructions go something like: Stop processing on B. Copy the entire data directory to your transfer media of choice (flash drive for example). Walk to machine A. Stop processing on machine A. Insert the flash drive. Copy the data to the second install on machine A. Allow this machine to connect to the internet, but not to process data. Send and recieve work. Stop this install processing. Copy the data back to the flash drive. Start processing in the normal machine A. Walk back to machine B. Copy the data from the flash to the data directory. Start processing there. BOINC WIKI |

I want to move my credits from my newer computer to the older one. If I delete Seti program from my newer computer, do I lose those credits? Credits can't be moved either, but since they are stored with your account and not (only) with your computer(s), nothing will be lost if you retire one of them. Thanks John and Gundolf. I don't think I will try that transfer thing. It makes my head spin just reading it. LOL. Thanks again gentlemen. Gundolf, I have to ask...in your signature block, do you pronounce that word as "chooze"? (phonetic spelling of course). |

Gundolf, I have to ask...in your signature block, do you pronounce that word as "chooze"? (phonetic spelling of course). Do you mean "Gruß"? That's pronounced something like "grooss" (long U-sound; "ß" is a sharp S-sound) Greetings, Gundolf |

That may be the word I'm thinking. When I lived in Stuttgart, I would say it in the context of "see you later". |
