Hi I'm just your basic geek who would like to to give both SETI and FAH some free cycles on some nice head-less linux servers I have. You will get plenty of CPU time if I can get some clear info on how to launch jobs using the BOINC client (boinc-client) on a 10.04 Ubuntu server. Not to tell you how to run your forum but maybe if you guys had 4 or 5 sticky posts - one for each of the major linux distros it would be really helpful to people needing some basic help. And I have to say its also an issue on the BOINC site as well --- I can find info on how to start and stop the BOINC services but no info on command line stuff for head-less non graphical setups. And yes -- I've been searching quite a bit -- found some command line help for an old version of BOINC .... |

sounds like you are having BOINC not Seti@home issues. perhaps this link will be of help ... http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/User_manual In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Hi You use the Boinc manager to control your boinc client. In ubuntu the graphical portion of this is called upon with "boincmgr" If you type "man boincmgr", it will tell you how to call a command line only version boincmgr, (which if you're not x-forwarding with a local xserver you will need) I know this info is overdue but maybe it will help someone else. #resist |

Also note. Once you exit boincmgr with running jobs, and tell it to keep running, Boinc becomes ROOT and keeps running. To then call upon boincmgr again you will need "sudo". If you do not, you will open a boincmgr that is not connected to your running boinc client. #resist |
