Message 1200735 - Posted: 28 Feb 2012, 23:36:32 UTC

Over the past few days (starting around Friday) we had continuing fallout with the science database repairs made over the previous weeks. Nothing we couldn't diagnose quickly or handle, but there were patches of low workunit availability. Long story short, after rebuilding our workunit table we hit some index corruption issues that didn't rear their head until we suddenly stumbled upon them.

Today we dropped all the indexes and rebuilt them from scratch during the usual weekly outage. So far so good. I also used the outage this week to upgrade the OS on the scheduling server (which was fairly out of date).

We also brought in some freshly compiled splitters which contain new database plumbing - a step toward us having the splitters themselves being more sensitive to telescope status when the data were recorded. This code is currently dormant but after some testing and calibration will ultimately keep us from creating and sending out large numbers of "noisy" workunits.

This plumbing however hasn't been compiled yet into the Astropulse splitters, which is why they shall remain off for now.

Thank you for the update Matt. I can hardly wait for the new servers to arrive, and be of some help. I remember well the anticipation of when oscar and carolyn arrived.

Steady, Sten-Arne. AP will be back eventually, and it will be better than ever. You WILL survive. Just go ahead and allow MB now and it will stretch out your APs a bit. It's not the end of the world...

Thanks for the update, Matt.

No problems whatsoever. I managed during the days when AP's where easy to get, to accumulate so many AP's, that I can stand an AP drought lasting for 2 weeks or more. I do not need to allow any MB's into my AP only machine, and I do not need to run any MB's on the CPU's of my Nvidia computers either.

I will just relax, and wait patiently for whenever they turn on the AP splitters again.

Burp.....:-)

I'm only running one computer. Using 2 cores of an old Q8200 CPU for CPU tasks, and 2 cores feeding a single Mid-range GPU, ATI HD7870.
Look at the RAC folks, and ask yourselves why it beats so many multi GPU monster computers :-)

I am not Speedy Gonzales but I am running an Astropulse unit on my Solaris Virtual Machine. The BOINC client and the application are by Dotsch.

Ah yes - I just set the "show_results" flag back to 1.

And just talked to the GPU gang - servers are done being assembled and shall ship later today or tomorrow.

it really is amazing to know how much you use a feature and take it for granted, when it's down all of a sudden, thank god to have the tasks pages back i missed them.

Ah yes - I just set the "show_results" flag back to 1.

Thanks for that. It helped me to abort this unnecessary AP WU, which was already validated. Makes 26-28 hours of CPU time, which can now be used for something more useful.

Hi Matt,
Great news, I hope however this doesnt mean you have to work 24/7 to get them in and working..

Seems to me you've been pretty busy as it is. Dont want you going down with exhaustion.. The resultant outage would probably take ages to sort out.

Regards,
____________
