I have a dual core Pentium in a Inspiron 530S. If I want to do the maximum work is there anywhere that says what the optimal Settings to achieve that are? There are lots of things to choose that are not quite clear to me.

Optimal depends on several things.

1) Are you running a laptop?

2) What else are you doing on your computer?

3) Does it have a GPU that can participate?

In that case, not much.

Make certain your computer does not hibernate or go to sleep.

Allow Computation while you are working (with the exception of some really intensive CPU usage programs this works). For those programs that absolutely need all of the CPU when they are running, use "exclusive_apps" in the cc_config.

Consider using optimized science applications. These are available from lunatics. The one warning is that they do not auto update. If they change, you are on your own installing the new version.

Make certain you have enough HD allocated to the cause. How much you need depends very much on your mix of projects. SETI uses a couple hundred K / each when not being crunched, and a few dozen MB for those that are being crunched. CPDN uses about 1GB for those being processed or completed...

I'm running two projects; Seti and Rosetta. I have 20GB assinged to both. Is that enough; or should I allocate more?

Projects will only use as much as they need to fill your cache preference. Allocating more hard drive space will not automatically translate into that space being used at all.

considering the size of WU's from both projects, 20Gb's is probably more than enough space
