I just had something odd happen last night where a single computer just spawned itself a hundred times or so on my list. It is a computer that I have never had any problems with before. Computer IDs are about a second apart, so does anyone know if the web server had a hiccup? Next question will I have to delete these myself one by one or can someone else do it from the admin side? Since these are phantoms and have nothing, you can tell which one is real and not Memorex. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |

There appears to be a glitch. We can't look at each others WU's as well. It's the weekend so they are unlikely to be in to fix anything this weekend In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Wow!! 2,846 listed computers...now, That's an impressive Farm!! :) But since 2,838 or so are dupes with goose-egg stats, you may be able to delete them (not an easy chore for sure). Looked at Details and Show for APR, which is a blank page, so there doesn't seem to be any tasks attached to the dupes. Failing that, perhaps a Mod should bring this issue to Staff's attention. Lt |

Crap that many? I did not even look for a total. How I wish I had that many! No way I m going to delete that on my own. Guess I will PM someone on Monday unless they figure it out first. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |

Crap that many? I did not even look for a total. How I wish I had that many! No way I m going to delete that on my own. Guess I will PM someone on Monday unless they figure it out first. Good news! There are only 2,826 pc's total listed now. :) I wonder what happened to the others?? (uh oh!) I think your idea of letting staff handle it is the right thing to do. At least get some advice from someone who really knows this project server/db stuff. Even if you can/could delete some or all of them, what else is messed up is anyone's guess and deleting any of your dupes could mess something else up. Just more poking around.... If you look at the bottom of the Details page for any dupe, you should see the option: "Delete this computer". That will be there only if no tasks for that pc are found in the db, WHEN everything is working properly... Further up from the bottom on the Details page it should say: " Number of times client has contacted server 0 ". Well, That's good. It would be quite a surprise for any pc to have tasks assigned without ever contacting the project servers - unless the db is messed up. Lt ps 2800+ would be quite an electric bill! |

The admins here ask if you could please exit & restart the BOINC on that machine and then post the start-up messages. That way they can check easier which of your hosts to keep. |

Yea, I tried to delete a few already and after those few I called it quits. Probably take me a week to do. You've been culled. With thanks to David who removed all the extras by hand. :-) If it happens again, try to find the log about it in your messages. This seems to be done by a hanging scheduler contact, possibly in combination with the 6.10.58 client (it's also seen on Einstein). |

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help you gave me. If it ever happens again (and I hope this is the one and only time) I will try to remember to get the log messages. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |

One question still. Are you using an account manager? |
Mad Max Send message Joined: 16 Mar 00 Posts: 475 Credit: 213,231,775 RAC: 407 |
The machine itself is located at work. I did have Boinc tasks loaded on it so I could view the progress of my machines. But all I used it for was to make sure that the machines were up and running, never to actually control Bonic on them. It has been since removed for about two months now. It was easier to keep track of the few machines I have through the web site from time to time to make sure there were no problems. And with Team viewer I can get access to the machines directly. No, no. An Account Manager, such as BAM! or Grid Republic. With this you don't have to add each project separately to each running client, but do you set which projects to run on the account manager's web site, then you just tell BOINC to use that account manager. Uhm, I think that you can check now if you have one, if in your BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Tolls menu you have a Sync option. |

No, I have never used a manager to access my machines. But I will say that I have had issues with the latest software (6.12.34) where the boinc manager drops the connection to the client after a few days of running just out of the blue. And it is hard to get it talking again. I had updated a few of my machines with this version and it has happened on all of them. Now I have reverted back to using 6.10.58 because I never had this problem before. IAS - Where Space Is Golden! |
