Message 1198758 - Posted: 23 Feb 2012, 8:56:15 UTC

I have a problem. A user always delete boince (seti@home) from the Startup tab and exits the manager. I use to calculate AK_v8_win_SSE3x.exe.
How could I start the program at the command line (batch, cmd?), so that the user sees nothing from the program and can it not stop?

What version of BOINC do you use?
Your computer(s) are hidden so I cannot see.

With the latest versions of BOINC, closing the manager does not stop applications.

My version is 7.0.8. The user close in the taskmanger all boince-aplication (boince.exe, boincetray.exe, AK_v8_win_SSSE3x.exe).

If that user has administrator's permissions, you can't successfully fight him on his computer. Even if you install BOINC as a service, he will be able to stop it.

If for some reason BOINC Manager could be installed on a computer (possibly remotely and/or automatic, through a network) either without a users knowledge or permission, and may be running invisibly in the background without any user intervention - when does the point come that BOINC Manager could be regarded as being spyware and possibly could be suggested removed by means of an anti-spyware program?

Any answer to this possible problem?

Someone did once write a viral installer. He or she was firmly banished from all BOINC projects, for violation of rule #1:

Run SETI@home only on authorized computers

Run SETI@home only on computers that you own, or for which you have obtained the owner's permission. Some companies and schools have policies that prohibit using their computers for projects such as SETI@home.

Is the user closing BOINC the owner of the computer you are sharing, one of your parents, your boss or a gaming brother, sister or flatmate ?

The answers you get will depend on your circumstances. A better explanation will get you better advice.

I wonder what the E stands for. Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing Eco-version? Extraordinary? Exquisite? Elite?

Or is it signed in name by her? ;-)

OK, you are the ADMIN. If you are the owner as well, then you can decide what software should be run on YOUR computers.

If you are not the owner, then please consider this:

Run SETI@home only on authorized computers

Run SETI@home only on computers that you own, or for which you have obtained the owner's permission. Some companies and schools have policies that prohibit using their computers for projects such as SETI@home.

I can't remember if the home page of this site is still shown in native language to non-English users.

Hopefully someone can check the translation is correct.

I can see, it is not easy to solve via command line. Now i have cancel the start of the manager at boot-time and eliminating the users from the BOINCE-group away. He gets the calculationprogram not more closed.

And repeating the last paragraph in english:

The problem remains, that if the user has access to the taskmanager, he can kill the programs. Unless of course you are relying on him not noticing that it's running and hence not checking...
Oh sorry, if he's not a member of the BOINC group, does BOINC actually run if he logs in? I don't believe it does?
