Sorry to have to post this message but I do not see any other way of contacting SETI or with reporting problems etc.

I am using BOINC on Linux - Fedora 15

I only signed up with SETI@home on 17-FEB-2012 and all was fine for the first couple of days. But then on 19 Feb 2012 13:45:13 UTC I have not received any further tasks to process. This particular task, (Task: 2318108207 - Work Unit: 933879667) has a status of "Completed, waiting for validation" and has been like that since 19 Feb 2012 13:45:13 UTC

My SETI@Home project, within BOINC, as a status of communincation deferred and when the countdown reaches zero then it just gets deferred again but the countdown is increased substantially each time.

I thought that multiple tasks would be downloaded but nothing is happening now so is SETI@Home broken -OR- is the problem because I have that task which has not yet been validated? and if so then why is it taking so long to validate?

I downloaded this project because I thought there would always be at least one task being processed or multiple tasks being processed - all being done constantly and but it has now been 3 days since a new task has been downloaded, surely this cannot be right as I thought there were literally millions of tasks to be processed and that this would be an ongoing process?

Any advice/suggestions would be warmly welcomed and appreciated, thanks.

Seti@Home is broken.

From the front page, at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/:
Project Currently Offline
One of our main administrative servers crashed today due to bad memory. We replaced the memory, and file systems will be recovering all night. No data were lost, but the project will be offline until further notice.

I'm running BOINC on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS - haven't been able to download the new binaries or any SETI workunits via the "normal" mechanism since October 2011.
BOINC complains that it count download the files it needs to run the SETI science application.

I've even tried using a Windows XP vm image, and get identical failures.

Oddly, I can download the .PNG graphics files and SETI client using the Coral CDN (adding nyud.net to the end of a URL), so if I could find a proxy server JUST for SETI connections I'd probably be OK - does the BOINC client allow you to use a proxy for some projects and not others? For now, I'm only downloading Einstein, but even if any transient SETI server problems are fixed, I don't think SETI will ever work for me again. After over a month of trying stuff, it's very frustrating.

nyud.net isn't quite the kind of proxy server I can use to download workunits, but it got the job done for the application download on a different platform. And installing BOINC using the Ubuntu app store has always worked fine.

This PC was off for 4 months due to a move, in the new location it only has Internet access via a "tethered" mobile connection over the USB port, which works with every other BOINC project, and internet access sgenerally, just not Seti@home.

1) Can I force an HTTPS connection to the SETI at home server that bypasses any packet sniffing/reformatting my ISP might be doing?

2) Is there a "public VPN" provider I can use to jump over my wireless carriers presumed clueless mangling of packets? (I've tried turning "image verification" off, to no avail)

It is your PNG files that are the trouble. Many service providers compress image files so that less bandwidth is used. In some cases, the service provider allows you to opt out of that compression. BOINC also has a mechanism for coping with this.

On this web site (or any project web site for a project to which you are attached), open your account page, click on Computing Preferences. Click on Edit Preferences at the bottom of the page. Change "Skip image file verification?
Check this ONLY if your Internet provider modifies image files (UMTS does this, for example). Skipping verification reduces the security of BOINC." to yes.

[edit] I notice that you have tried this. However, it may not happen on the first update. Once you change this setting, update a couple of times. Also note that this is a global setting, and changing it at any project will change it for all projects.
