Nvidia 295.73 Driver

My Experience of these drivers is the same as 295.51, Once the DVI connected Monitor goes to sleep, the Cuda device becomes unavailable This seems to be a non-issue for me on Linux (nvidia version 295.20), but it doesn't even need X to be running in order to use CUDA, so that might help... strike this: Whoops, I'm using HDMI, not DVI. No idea about DVI on Linux! Nope, I have DVI after all. I keep mixing up the two interfaces. |

No issues with 295.20 on Linux here (S@H and E@H). None with previous versions, too. I'm running two computers with GPUs; one doesn't have a monitor connected (and no X is running), on other I'm using DVI and start X only on demand. Works also if I unplug the monitor. CUDA works like clockwork all the time and is unaffected by that. Looks like the Linux driver is properly made - GPU can be utilized just as a co-processor and not also display device. Of course, I'm using the "nvidia-smi -pm 1" (persistence mode) setting to keep kernel driver loaded even with no X running. ![]() |

I am also using 295.20 in ubuntu and only got around to getting seti running on the gpu today, (GT430) Though it seems to be running at half speed compared to when the card was in my win 7 box, I will see how it go`s. |

I tried the 295.73 version on two of my rigs - one with GTX480 and the other running GTX260. As soon the system restarted after the installation, I noticed a sudden drop in GPU temperatures, even though the GPU usage was being indicated at 99%. Later I found out that the processing time for CUDA MB had increased from around 10 minutes to about 45 minutes. Seems the newer version isnt doing a good job during the crunching. Reverted back to 285.58 and the rig is back to its normal crunching time. Just an observation, not sure if it is isolated case or others out there have observed the same. ______________ ![]() ![]() |

I am running the new driver with my two GTX 480's, and it seems fine so far. My screen never sleeps, as I turn off the monitor at night or if I'm away from home. The run times seem similar to what I'm used to. I can't check for errors, as the Tasks list is still turned off. My OC is holding on both GPU's. From my end it seems to be working just fine. Bit the bullet today and installed the driver as an upgrade as oppossed to a clean install on my A-SYS. Since I had problems in the past with my Roxio video player working with anything above 260.xx, that was the first test that passed; even after several machine warm restarts. After starting BOINC, I noticed that the GPU memory detection errors that I reported with 7.0.18 disappeared and the correct memory is being reported for both of my devices, GTX460 SE & GTS250. This also applies to Opencl. ![]() I don't buy computers, I build them!! |

Win7 64-bit with this recently downloaded driver seems to yield about a 20% "computation error" on Cuda-Fermi jobs. Anyone else seeing this? FWIW this is on two systems. One with a GTX-560ti and one with a GTX-465. My WinXP-64 seems OK with this version seems basically OK -- 2xGTX-450s SLI. Processing times are longer. GPUs (EVGA precision monitoring & OC) are showing noticeably cooler. Tempted to revert to a clean install of 285.62. Thoughts? |

Win7 64-bit with this recently downloaded driver seems to yield about a 20% "computation error" on Cuda-Fermi jobs. If you have your monitor connected via DVI, when the monitor goes to sleep the card is also basically going to sleep and BOINC no longer sees it. 290.53 is also a good driver. ![]() |

Don't have the monitors set to sleep. Win7 power setting set to Max Perf. ASUS AI Suite set to "rocket" mode. None of that changed, just the new nVidia driver. Missed the release of 290.53... Usually don't install from the site, normally save to RAID and install all of the Win7 PCs from there. Thanks, though Arkayn. |

Couldn't stand it... Went back to 285.62 on one PC. 10 Cuda-Fermi jobs complete. No computation errors. Estimated job times dropped from ~22 minutes to ~6:10. GPU utilisation is back up. The temps are pushing the old fan profile to blow air again. When I get a few minutes the rest of the boxes are switching back, too. |

So far: No problems with Seti or Einstein. DISREGARD ABOVE!!!!!!!!! Found problems!!! GPU would run 25 seconds or more (Sometimes no seconds) and then start the next in line. Had about 13 waiting, after having started computation, because of this. I had uninstalled Lunatics v0.39, clean installed 295.73, and then reinstalled Lunatics. I then uninstalled Lunatics, did a clean installed 285.62, and reinstalled Lunatics. WORKS PERFECTLY AGAIN!!!!!! 295.73 definately caused issues for me on daul gtx 570s. When power save settings turned off the displays, computation errors occurred. Reverted to 285.62 problem went away. Went back to 295.73, same issue again. Changed display power off to never and screen saver to none, turned the monitors off manually and ran clean over night for sedti and milkyway. Was a bear to figure out because webroot started causing issues with boinc/milkyway on the same day I added the second 570, updated windows and updated the nividia drivers. Webroot was wrecking Windows responses and locking Boinc. Both run fine without the other. At first I thought it was new card. Only figured it out by going back to a restore point. For a little while, all was cool and after a little while lock ups started again. Traced it back to webroot updating itself. Nothing like having 2 new problems and 4 new variables (I should know better than do mass upgrades, but each individual step seemed ok until boinc issues hit). |

I had a lot of computational errors with 295.73 driver but only in one Win7(32) host. No problems wih 295.73 driver on XP hosts. I have installed Lunatics v0.39 everywhere and now I don't see errors in the Win7(32) too. |

Continuing from my earlier post, had no problems with the driver installation (inplace upgrade). Did stop processing BOINC 7.0.18 prior to installing. Did a warm start after and everything came up normally. Like a couple of people have noted the GPU temps came down on an average of 6 degrees. Haven't noticed any major time difference on CUDA processing using Lunatics v0.39. Doing spot checking during the day and have not noticed any excessive computation errors. I do get them from every now and them, but they are normal as far as I am concerned, depending on what I'm doing on the machine. Because the TASKS Function is temporarily turned off, I can't check any further on that manner. And if it wasn't for reshceduling, all I would be working on now is CUDA. By the way my machines never have any shuteye unless they are completely shut down and the monitors are connected via a DVI -> HDMI adapter at the card end. Did an in-place upgrade on the B-SYS this morning and had trouble with BOINC starting after a couple of warm restarts. Did a repair install and BOINC started normally after a restart. Regressed 6.12.34 -> 6.10.60 in an attempt to clear the d/l back off problem. It did not completely clear it up but it did help significantly. GPU temps also reduced by an average of 8 degrees. GPUs (EVGA GTX275 / EVGA GTS250 - two separate devices on a single card) process times are normal. ![]() I don't buy computers, I build them!! |
