Must be the season for parents departing this life - my Mum departed on Wednesday. One of the wakes will be here over next weekend. I'm not saying where the other one will be apart from the hint that a fair amount of local cider, washed down fine single malts, may be consumed in her honour and memory...

I must say, with the help of a bit of age, Sheila and I both lost our Fathers 20 years ago now, and our mothers passed on over 10 years ago.

This makes us the older generation, and main coffin dodgers.
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Not sure what I'm doing right, but, I'm now older than my father was when he has his first heart attack, and my ticker is still behaving itself. And, I'm four years older than my younger brother who had a quad bypass about six years ago, again with no signs of needing such an intervention. However I have a pair of somewhat less than perfect kidneys.

Hey Rob, I am sorry to hear about your loss, I do understand how tough it really is now that my dad has passed on. From the moment he passed out with me during our daily coffee time 2 months ago and since his death 2 weeks ago I find myself strangely lost. They say it gets better with time I sure hope so.

You will never get over the loss, but thru it in time. I still grieve for my second son and get sad, but only in times like this. We lost him Thanksgiving weekend 1979.

I hope this makes sense. Sorry to hear about all the losses and you are all in my thoughts.

My condolences to all who have recently lost loved ones.

This past Friday, 4/13, was the 4th anniversary of my Mother's passing due to cancer. She went 5 months and 1 day after my Father died of complications following a fall and hip-replacement surgery. But Mom was almost 80, and Dad almost 84, so it wasn't like they got short-changed or anything.

And as usual, with the coming of warmer weather, I have been very busy with funerals of my fellow Veterans. It seems the Supreme Commander's transfer office gets very busy once the weather begins to improve.

Losing a loved one can be like a kick in the head - it messes your mind something fierce. You are never the same, but eventually you get back to something resembling normal functioning.

Sooner or later, everybody dies, but Life goes on.
May God's Grace sooth your pain and speed your recovery.

Thank you to all who have sent condolences following the death of my Mum.

I would ask you all to join us as a family at mid-day on Monday (your local time, wherever you are) as he funeral starts.

But don't forget the international wake in Rocky's cafe this weekend - its bound to be an event to remember, even if only for the size of my bar tab at the end of it!

I'm on the road this weekend, but I'll check in as the festivities permit. Tonight I attended the 50th Anniversary Dinner of our Fallon, Nevada, FRA Branch. One of my Shipmates won a bottle of Carolan's Irish Whiskey in the after-dinner drawings. He can't drink due to health reasons, so he traded for a set of LED flashlights I won. Now my liquor of choice is single-malt Scotch, but a good Irishman will do in a pinch.

When we toast our Departed Shipmates and Ladies at the Regional meeting on Saturday, I'll remember your Mum, too, Rob.

Many thanks to all who sent to their thoughts and wishes to my family and I at this time. You will be pleased to know that we sent Mum off in a manner to which she would have approved.

That's the tab settled.

Ales and beers - Certainly looks more than the average rugby club do, so the antipodeans were in good form....
Wines, ports - lots
Shorts of spirits - Looks like John and Chris had a very good time

But, only one bottle of sherry for the ladies?

Uli & M'LadyL, I hope that all the guests were all well behaved.

Hey you all need to shake this place up again...Forget giving the Ladies "la de da" Sherry they demand Jack Daniels and Coke! Once they start dancing then several rounds of Tequila will really get em shaking.... Rocky used to have a bottle or two if JD stashed around somewhere....
