How many words do you know

Interesting little test that estimates how many (English language) words you know.

I'll be honest: I only know 26,600. Roughly as literate as the average fence post. :P

I pulled the link off of a much larger forum so maybe, all involved, have created an unintentional denial-of-service attack. :O

Anyway, it seems to be back, at least for now.

Your total vocabulary size is estimated to be:
10,000 words.

If 26,000 is being as literate as the average fence post, then I guess 10,000 is like a nail hammered into that fence post :-(

And now I'd better shut up...

But assuming English is not your first language the site says;
Anything much beyond 10,000 words generally only comes from living abroad in an English-speaking country for a significant period of time, or else spending tremendous amounts of one's own time exposed to English media (books, sitcoms, movies, etc.).

33,500 but that only includes non medical terms. add about 10-20k more for that

still not bad considering that the average is around 31k for 30+ y/o adult

Words.........ahem.
They are prat and parcel of who I am.
I parse them out kindly when I can.

And disburse them at random when I am not in my right mind.
Or left.

I have often discussed and been banned for..........my use of them.

Or the use of terms bandied about in my youth that are no longer considered 'politically correct'.

Go on and chastise me......if you will..
I shall continue to use and abuse the King's English, as it were.....
And all other forms I can utilize,.

I was told to not be so damned wordy when I was a teen because it really confused my classmates
