But if the Union does break up England will have to become a nation or risk becoming a pebble on a beach.

Ah but the United Kingdom will not break up. It will change into the "United Kingdom of England, Wales and Northern Ireland". Thank you very much, the name "England" will finally officially reappear. But we all have to have a passports reprinted with the new name and show them at the Scottish/England border.

...and after 2016, any port of entry to Ireland as Northern Ireland will no longer exist.

Sirius demotes us to mere pebble status so in my best French accent I reply, "Sirius, I spit in yur' eye"....Anyway, as long as it's a nice sunny beach then
that might no be so bad.

A pebble is better than not existing.

"This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in a silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house
Against the envy of less happier lands

This blessed plot, this earth, this realm

This England"

Ah, but pebbles can & do create large ripples on water & I think that all politicians in the UK become fully aware of this.

Can't we just be demoted to "small boulder" status instead?

[Off topic Mode ON]

When I was a pre-teen, I had a friend called Barry Cleave, who like me now was on the large size. But, he was a farmer's son, and very active despite his size. We used to go out shooting across their farmland.

His nick name was "Boulder Cleave" - why, I cannot remember as I am recalling school days over 50 years ago).

We had a saying, that "Barry, found he wasn't the only pebble on the beach so he became a little bolder (spelt as I mean)!".

[Off topic Mode OFF]
It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues

Demographic projections which go out two generations are very speculative.

Not a problem, England will send all the non-anglicans up north...

It's all a matter of timing. Besides, given the Scots Balmoral as well.

Ah, but "up north" think they are going independent, that might cause a rethink?

Oops, well perhaps all the non-Anglicans could be relocated to there as a 'gift of the monarch'. <giggle>

Scottish Independence shouldn't make any difference.

Balmoral has been one of the residences of the British Royal Family since 1852, when it was purchased by Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert. It remains the private property of the monarch, and is not part of the Crown Estate.
