Firstly the Scottish DNA Project is not a wasted one, it is giving valuable, useful, and a fascinating insight into peoples genealogy. The project will continue, and independence will have no bearing on the matter. DNA project

Doubt it very much as if Independence is achieved, there won't be much employment available & that will cause the project to die... £200 cost for men & £170 for women.... can't see Jocks wasting that on a history project as their beer comes 1st.

Eire, wonder if Brussels has yet thought about a study on Irish dietary habits, 'Why do the Irish eat so many spuds'
Please be careful here, remember the mid 19th century.
WHY?

Polticial correctness at it's worst!

I think we are into a bit of stereotyping here Nick! What next, Essex girl jokes?

Nothing new there then as you Sassenachs are world famous for stereotyping.

@Nick

Er? got anything to do with 'just being in-bedded in their gene structure'?
Love the Freudian slip, I assume you mean embedded?

Was a slip but I think I'll stick with it just for the laugh in it.

Stereotyping, no for Brussels started this first with the red heads.
Brussels wont be able to do a study on our Essex girl jokes until first carrying
out a study on British humour first. Once this latter study has been completed
and Brussels then understands what British sense of humour is all about they'll
end up looking at themselves then.....burst out laughing.

....lovely satire again....

I get away with the spuds reference since Sirius has not cajoled me over it.

Do these politicians really know what they're talking about?

Sweeney rejects EU reapplication reports

"Labour peer Lord George Foulkes, who is on the committee, told the newspaper: "I understand [the president of the European Commission] Jose Manuel Barosso will be replying to the economic affairs sub committee on the economic impact of separation and we have had evidence here in Brussels confirming Scotland would have to seek accession to the European Union.""

...they can't even agree with themselves!

I like this idea, Scotland would have to fund the £4B by itself for its proposed Wind power. Which generates most of its power at night when Scotand doesn't need it. So it would have to sell it to England at low rates.

During the day it wouldn't generate enough power, so will have to but power from England at high rates.

Good one Mr. S.

Independent Scotland's wind power would be 'foreign aid' for England

"A Scottish Government spokesman said renewable power was a “secure and reliable” source of energy that industry regulator Ofgem has agreed would be required to “keep the lights on” in England."

The game's up for the SNP, they have been caught with their kilts down around
their ankles. They wont get automatic admission to the ECM, they have always
known this...well they were informed by Brussels ages ago. Plus with Spain
vetoing any application Scotland makes means one thing...no point in holding
a referendum because if you vote to leave the UK will mean you will be out of
the ECM too for ever and a day. Scottish independence is now dead and buried
along with Salmon too so time now for Westminster to whip them into line and
make Scotland realise that it is part of the UK and no more to be tolerated as
that precocious bunch that sits way-up north. The same for Wales too, your in
the UK and would become nothing if you were out, so both you and Scotland plus
England will have all the same laws...like it or not. Also get rid of those
stupid regional governments in Scotland and Wales, the're only places were
fundamentalist independent idealist are able to squirm their way in to
politics and cause unnecessary aggravation. Too, bring out a new law that makes
it illegal for any political party to from itself into a one country party,
to be legal it must represent itself in all UK countries. Finally start
working on dropping country names and plan to name the whole of these Isles..
...Britain...with North, South, East and West as the regions within.
....Good morning all....

Another problem for Mr. S, looks like the income he said would guarantee his independant Scotlands finances for at least 30 years, just isn't there.

"BIG" Banknotes

"The Scottish National Party is proposing that an independent Scotland arranges with the rest of the UK and the Bank of England to continue to be part of the sterling family.

But some ask whether political independence could lead to doubt as to how far London would back Scotland financially. And during a financial crisis, doubt is dangerous.

"It is one of the paradoxes of independence for countries today that some of the freedoms that you currently enjoy may become unavailable to you," he says."

Sorry, Alex, you can't have your bread buttered on both sides!

The Scottish National Party has not yet thought through how to set up, or worked out the costs involved in setting up an independent Scotlands security.

SNP 'has not thought through' Scottish MI5 and MI6

N.B. for those not familiar with UK terms the approx equivalents are,

MI5 = FBI
MI6 = CIA
GCHQ = NSA
