It's just blustering nothing more, it's the only response they have. ...

So far... But how far can they screw down an embargo or blockade?

Falkland Islands: A shortage of eggs

... "Have you been hit by the egg shortage?"...

All a game to keep unpopular Argentine politicians in power a little longer? Just as was the case with General Galtieri(sp?)?

Up until the oil starts to flow and the Islanders start to spend their share
of this oil revenue. You'll see the other countries involved in this embargo
give up on Argentina and come running with their goods and services to offer.
Once the revenue starts to pour in watch the island start to develop it's
infrastructure. Who will not get a look-in, Argentina of course...as Dell-boy
would say, "What a bunch of plonkers"....

This is interesting! The Royal Navy ships that were sunk in 1982 were hit by French supplied Exocet missiles.

Should the Falklands erupt once more, will the French stick to their bilateral agreement or will they put $$$$$$ 1st & resupply Argentina?

Er Sirius, you need to be aware of all the facts.

France-Falklands

There are other unsubstantiated reports that France didn't supply launch codes until 6 months after their delivery.

Beg your pardon, but France did supply Argentina with exocets & it was only because they didn't want the UK as an enemy that they provided assistance.

also Argentina was running low on exocets & went to France for further supplies, but by then that France/UK agreement & secret intelligence was in force. If it hadn't I'm pretty sure the conflict would have had a different outcome.

Why should it have had a different outcome. The equipment captured from the Argentinian soldiers at Goose Green, in the main part, was better and of newer design that that used by the para's.

In the air the Harrier was and is a close ground support aircraft, as can be seen as it is prefered aircraft of the American Marines, not a fighter yet they still managed to take out several enemy aircraft.

It is not about equipment it is about the men and their training. Is there anything to suggest the Argentinians have improved since.

It would have been different as many more RN ships would have been sunk had Argentina had a resupply of exocets. Even the RN themselves said that.

Therefore, the troops on the ground would have ran short of supplies & had the carrier been hit, the harriers would have been useless....or would they have been able to fly in the air on air rather than fuel?

Being short of munitions, in short and at the beginning of longer conficts is commonplace ever since the use of throwing weapons. So that just shows bad planning or arrogance as the Argentinians started it.

And I don't think that any actions so far by the British is stirring the pot. Go back and read the news reports before the last election in Argentina, I think you will find out who is relly stirring the pot.

This thread title should actually read ...

Is Argentina trying to stir the pot over the Falkland Islands?

Look at the rhetoric as reported and when it started (by Argentina).

I agree. I think the UK got wind that Argentina were planning something, another invasion maybe, so bolstered their defenses. They also sent a royal celebrity down there to make everyone look at the Falklands and to sway Argentina from mounting another sneaky attack.

We'll never know if such an attack was thwarted, but Argentina, feeling a bit frustrated, may have decided to attack with words instead. All they can really do with the Brits on guard...

The thing about the Argentinians getting upset about sending a prince and a newer ship down there is a little absurd.

If you had a newly qualified person, which as you know usually means they think they now know all there is about it, where would you send them for some real training? The Mediterranean or the Southern Atlantic?

And do they really think that the Royal Navy, is going to keep old warships down there, when they have newer ones.

Politicians never learn from history. Through their dithering, self inflated egos, & schoolboyish statesmanship/oneupmanship leading to wars because they don't want to lose face.

They never listen to the people who have to fight those wars.......

Actor "condemned" for expressing opinion on a political matter. MP expresses opinion on movies and is not. Interesting.

While we are anxiously awaiting Bobby's reply with baited breath, a word from our sponsor.

Full stop, end of story

Do you consider the PM or the Telegraph your sponsor?

As for the anxiety, little I can do to help you with that. Not sure I can help enlighten you or Sirius on why I used the word "interesting" in my previous post, I thought the double standard I highlighted was fairly self evident.

Cristina Kirchner told to leave Falkland Islanders alone, by Argentina's intellectuals

Quick quote;
Last week, Sean Penn, the Hollywood actor, appeared with President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner to criticise British actions over the disputed archipelago.

But a group of Argentina's leading intellectuals, historians, journalists, constitutional experts and politicians have published an open letter calling on their own government to rethink policy towards the islands they call the Malvinas branding it "crazy" and "absurd".

The 17 signatories accused Mrs Kirchner's government of "harassing" the Falklands population of 3,000, who overwhelmingly want the islands to remain a British Overseas Territory.

The group said Argentina must respect the islanders' right to self-determination and give up its policy of trying to force Britain into negotiating sovereignty.

"It is truly absurd and crazy to force a government and sovereignty on people who do not want it," commented Fernando Iglesias, a former congressman who co-authored the document.

Think that says it all, even the intellectuals, say it is their president who is stirring the pot.
