Our Current Projects
1. Astropulse/NTPCKR Server: We are building a backend processing server at Jeff's request. This server is a SYNERGY clone bumped to 128G of RAM and will be utilized to process Astropulse and NTPCKR data.

i am presently checking that section Forums de discussion : Near Time Persistency Checker

with the new Astropulse/NTPCKR Server being assembled, will this section will comeback alive ?
or it s something else ?

That's the thought though I'm not sure if that will be the case. I'll ask the guys next time I'm on the phone with them.

A Note on our Corporate Sponsor

NKOL http://nkol.net/ is building these servers for us on a cost + 10% basis which saves the project an enormous amount of money, especially over the long haul (multiple servers). We owe them our heartfelt thanks for going out of their way to do this for us and are looking forward to working with them again in the near future.

As of today we have mailed a cashiers check to the NKOL offices for payment in full on both of the servers they're building for us. The cashiers check is on its way and is slated to be delivered on 02/21/2012. The tracking number for the check is (USPS) 23083250000036618795.

Not a bad way to kick off a weekend. Not bad at all.

I'll keep everyone updated as the server builds progress.

Hi,
Sounds great, congrats to all concerned.

However I'm slightly puzzled about something.

There are seemingly a LOT of people involved in the seti project who know a considerable amount regarding computers..

Why then is the build being outsourced? I'd have thought the experise to self build existed in spades:-) And self builds cut costs, unless there is some other factor involved of which I'm unaware.

Regards

Hi,
Me again:-)
I see NASA has just stopped using its last mainframe.. Anyone with any contacts at NASA who might be able to get them to donate the 'redundant' hardware to S@H?

Seems like a waste if that rig is just going to the knackers yard.

Regards,
Cliff,

If you read Slavac's post with the specs, you will see that he mentions that our sponsor NKOL is building these computers for us at 10% over cost. That covers their costs of acquiring the correct parts, assembling, and testing before shipment. They are in the business, so they have access to discounts that we would not have available should we try to source everything ourselves. In the end, they are making little if any profit building these computers for Seti. And they have the experience. So in the end, our good sponsor NKOL is a far better choice than one of us trying to assemble a server ourselves. And saving us much money in the process, I am sure.

I agree 100% with you Mark, Plus the fact that you also get a factory warranty.

Big iron needs a lot of power and lot of cooling. Who will pay for it?

When the new servers are put into service, I believe that some of the old equipment will be decommissioned, so much of that should be an offset.

Who is paying now? University of California, I suppose. All in all, their electricity bills will be a bit large than now ;)

OK, but I was referring to the suggestion to get a discarded mainframe from NASA.

Id say off hand that what NKOL is building is better than that old mainframe.
