I keep getting the message "Seti@home Enhanced needs 32.00MB more disk space. You currently have 0.00 MB available and it needs 32.00MB." I do not know what it means since I have 2.9GB free disk space. The BOINC manager says Total Disk Usage and Disk usage by BOINC projects I've looked through my settings but don't see what to change. Can anyone help me on this? |

Each Wu requires 32 MB of space on the disk. Check your account page click on computing preferences then scroll down to see how much space you all Seti to use. I have mine set to use at most 100GB of space and leave 0.001GB free. It's highly unlikely that seti will ever use that much space but it leaves me a lot of headroom In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

There are three settings. BOINC uses the most restrictive of the settings as the amount of disk space allowed. These were developed when the typical hard disk was not that big. There are also some projects that use a great deal more space than SETI does. For example CPDN uses 1GB or so / task. Disk: use at most 100 GB Disk: leave free at least Values smaller than 0.001 are ignored 0.001 GB Disk: use at most 50% of total BOINC WIKI |

I'm having the same issue. And I'm very aware of seti@home settings. I have seti running on 3 other machines properly, however the instance of seti on my 10.04 Ubuntu server just keeps throwing that error..... very frustrating I have about 40GB available to BOINC on this machine..... yet "needs 32.00MB more disk space"(It could fit that in my ram 500 times over! serenity now!)..... Or, once Ubuntu 12.04 is completed, Ill put it on that machine. I've had several problems with BOINC running in 10.04, however my 12.04 test box runs it like a dream. I have only had this issue with boinc manager 6.10.17, running on Ubuntu 10.04. (I'm not sure of the client version-I'm not sure how to call that info from the command line) all other versions of boinc I run, on win2k, winxp, and Ubuntu 12.04 are problem free. |

Hmm solved? I clicked the "reset project" button, and it started downloading everything. Go figure. At least it wasn't something I was doing wrong, just something I didn't try. :-) |

Well sure it worked; you deleted every workunit you had on your system which freed up some space so that you can download more work. That's akin to blowing up your house and re-building it because you didn't have enough space in your closet. |

Perhaps clicking the "Clear" button in the local preferences window would have been more appropriate. ;-) Gruß, Gundolf |

there were no workunits. there still is'nt. Not on that install of boinc anyways. Its a new install of BOINC that I cannot get to start working cause of the damn 32mb it thinks it doesn't have It will not download any on that machine, as it's still getting the error. I was mistaken earlier that I had "fixed" it I really am considering build the v7.x version from source in Ubuntu 10.04. I know it works without issue, and the 10.04 ubuntu repo version has been nothing but a headache. I gave up on it in the past, and now Im gonna throw in the towel again. |

Earlier in the thread John McLeod gave the appropriate settings that should be inspected if you're getting that error message. What are your values for each and do you have different venues setup for your computer(s)? |

BOINC 7 won't fix this as it isn't a bug, it's a preference setting. As long as you don't adjust that preference, this problem will continue. Check in the computing preferences, that all the "Disk and memory usage" settings are correct. If in doubt, post their values here. Also check that you didn't inadvertently set local preferences., as these override any of the same online preferences. BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Tools->Preferences. Or if you don't start BOINC Manager, navigate to your BOINC data directory (where client_state.xml file lives) and see if you have a file called global_prefs_override.xml Either adjust the values by hand in this file, or do easier and delete it. That way you will force BOINC to use the online preferences. And as long as those are set correctly, you will download work. |

no currently all my computers are setup the same. they are allowed up to 50 GB of disk space, and they never use hardly a fraction of that. Im aware of the settings...... As I mentioned, Im a somewhat computer literate person, as such this is why I'm here because I am having a "bug" with my version of BOINC that I cannot figure out. next, I'm going to remove the package, and re-install it. If the same error persists, I'm going to not run seti on this machine until it has ubuntu 12.04 on it values you wanted: use at most: 50GB disk space leave at least: 0.0 GB free Use at most: 50% of free disk space (before you ask there is over 1TB free) Just to make be clearer. on startup of BOINC, the status messages read "preferences limit disk usage to 50GB" then a few messages later "seti@home enhanced needs 32.00MB more disk space" I am out of ideas. I already tried linux group settings, but this should'nt be necessary as boinc runs on my other linux machine just fine without any usernames in its group. |

Try changing the value for Leave at Least from 0.0 to 0.001 to see if that makes a difference. It says values smaller than 0.001 are ignored, and 0.0 is absolutely smaller than 0.001. Also, how much disk space is being used across all projects according to BOINC Manager? |

I'm still curious to know what your settings are for: again, Ive been running seti successfully just fine on all of my machines........ But in case I'm a tard and cant use a computer, I posted the settings up there would you like a screenshot of the disk usage pie chart? (that also shows over 40GB available to boinc) Ubuntu 10.04 is the only version of any OS that I have this issue on, hence I think it's much more likely a "bug" |

BOINC 7 won't fix this as it isn't a bug, it's a preference setting. As long as you don't adjust that preference, this problem will continue. Boinc 7 runs grea on ubuntu 12.04. I feel like a broke record here, but I've already been running boinc7 in ubuntu 12.04 without any issue, especially this one. Ill add, I dont have this issue on my win2k, or winxp machines either |

Use at most: 50% of free disk space (before you ask there is over 1TB free) Uhm, is this all on one partition? This value is just for the partition that BOINC is installed on, so if the drive is 1.5TB, but the partition BOINC is on is only 500gB, then this says 50% of 500GB. If confused: BOINC will state at start-up what it sees as free disk space. e.g. from my system: 26/03/2012 17:18:40 | | Disk: 205.08 GB total, 143.75 GB free |

I feel like a broke record here... So why answer before checking what I asked for? Is it so difficult to answer a question? |

BOINC 7 won't fix this as it isn't a bug, it's a preference setting. As long as you don't adjust that preference, this problem will continue. Well, I cleared the preferences (forcing boinc to get the IDENTICAL defaults) It cleared preferences, replaced them with the same preferences, and then it DOWNLOADED JOBS :-) looks like success this time. I just think its weird I had to do that... but hey whatever, as long as it works. |

what did you ask for that I did not answer? |

I know what a partition is..(in my case its actually multiple disks making one RAID partition, the opposite of what you thought I might be doing) (the whole reason i started this seti kick is due to having a way more powerful set of machines than I'm currently taking advantage of, hence I felt *someone* should be using them) anyways. the problem was fixed by forcing boinc to download its usage settings again. All the values remain the same, it just didn't like em the first time. I dont get it but. :-) thanks guys! -Dave (p.s.-- for Ubuntu users, 12.04 (server-headless) works great with boinc in case anyone's planning on upgrading their buntu) |
