When doing a new install of Boinc if I just change the drive letter when I install will that place all the Boinc & S@H files on the Raptor? When you run the BOINC installer, click the 'Advanced' button on the third screen - that'll allow you to change two separate installation locations. The 'Program' location is only used for BOINC's own files - the ones you are currently installing. Those are just read once each time you start BOINC - you'd gain nothing by moving them to the new drive. The 'Data' location is the one you want to change. In this context, even the SETI program files are treated as data by BOINC: so yes, all the active (changing) BOINC files, and all the SETI files, would end up on the new drive after installation with just that one change. No. The Lunatics Installer reads the BOINC location information left in the Windows registry by the BOINC installer, and will find the working files OK. ID: 1187121 ·

Since the Raptors are server grade Hard drives (from what I understand) it should be well suited to the frequent read/write of WUs. Sorry to disappoint you on this matter. But for many other things VRs are awesome. I have two 300 GB myself, one per workstation. I didn't know there are 74 GB models of VR. Very nice. As long as needed mostly as system drive(and as a drive for code compilation in my case) this low capacity, but probably less expensive model, is very welcome. ID: 1187128 ·

When they changed from the Raptor to VelociRaptor name one of the first models was the 74GB one. Probably to replace the original 74GB Raptor. I had thought about getting one at the time to replace my older drive as it was also SATA 3Gb instead of the 1.5Gb. I instead went with a large array of TB drives for about the same money. Another options for installing this drive to use just for S@H would be to mount it as a folder. So if you had C:\ProgramData\BOINC\. then you could just mount it as that folder. It has been a while since I have done that process. So I'm not sure if it as easy as it once was.
