How's it going with the stop smoking bit. I hope your stopping is going well. Still on it. The urges have NOT gone away yet though.. Hard fight sometimes, but the kitties win. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Mark, congratulations on making three months without a smoke! Keep fighting those urges; do not give in to them. This has and will continue to show benefits: You and the kitties are all healthier because of quitting and SETI@home has benefited from it also. |

I quit cold turkey 8 years ago now. I found the build up to quitting was the worst part for me, the quitting part was pretty easy. I also quit drinking the same day. I dont miss either one. Good Job mate :) |

Mark, congratulations on making three months without a smoke! Amazing how that works, eh? I quit smoking about 18 months ago. Nice chunk of money there. Then I noticed about a year later that I had gained enough weight that a long walk from a parking lot was troublesome, so I looked at what I was eating and was shocked at what I was spending. So now I save about $1500 per year not paying for cigarettes - AND without being too draconic I save over $10,000 per year on food by simply eating on a sensible diet, and buying food from the grocery store. I've lost 45 lbs in the last six months too, and that parking lot walk is no big deal. I wish I had had the good sense 20 years ago that I've recently developed, but if wishes were fishes... Good luck keeping off the death sticks. |

HI I TO AM A LONG TERM SMOKER WHEN DO YOU PLAN TO QUIT? Uhh...... I did already, that's why I am asking if it's time to reward myself. Go back to the beginning of the thread. If you would like some moral support, and wish to quit now, you are welcome to post your efforts here, my friend. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Go for it Mark. That looks like one heck of a watch. I like the UTC time function on it to. I bet that watch can do everything but regulate the sun, moon and stars:) [/quote] Old James |

Yeah, but what kind of RAC are you going to get out of it? I have one of these, I built from components about 25 years ago from a Heathkit kit. Last one I saw on ebay went for over 1000.00 for an unbuilt kit. Real old shcool, but the the technology that went into the clock was amazing. They gave you every single bit of tech that went into the processor and it's logic. It still runs, and synchs up when the signal from the atomic clock is strong enough. It's really old, and the components have aged. I am sure if I had the equipment to realign the RF stages, it could do much better. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Don't tell me you have a 'lil radio junkie in your blood Mark? I'd hate to think we have something in common. ;-) #resist |

Titanium too. Good choice. That means, when future archaeologists, evolved from whatever inherits our world, go looking through the fossilized remains of our society, they will find our titanium watches you and I; even if nothing remains of our bones. My titanium watch is not nearly so fancy, but its body and bracelet will also outlast me by aeons. I've had it for many years, and it has withstood the test of time so far in pristine condition. Go for it. I think I am. Therefore I am. I think. |

Mark... This is getting seriously scary. So... in addition to everything else we have in common, we've also got Heathkit. I don't have one of those clocks. My "big" project was a multi-band shortwave, but I grew-up learning to play an organ my dad built "Thomas by Heathkit" (one of these: http://lakeland.craigslist.org/msg/2925757294.htmland) and the first stereo I ever heard was a Heathkit receiver. Remember that digital FM tuner before ANYone had a digital FM tuner? I wanted one of those, but it cost half as much as... well, more than I was worth. Fine. I guess I can cope with having way too much in common with you for either of our comfort. One thing we don't share: you stopped smoking. |
