So its not only your bad habits that have to be changed. Len is absolutely right. The smoking habit becomes integrated with other daily activities, particularly those around food and drink. Long after I no longer craved cigarettes, I would get a pang every time I had a cup of coffee. I had trained my brain to associate smoking with coffee. It took a very, very long time to break this. For many people, it's going to a bar. They've trained themselves that "having fun" means drinking, being with friends AND smoking. Keep it up! This C-note is burning a hole in my pocket!!! As a probably long forgotten soul here seeing this thread today I felt compelled to congratulate you on your victory! I know how hard you have tried so many times in the past and hope over the next few days (the month isn't over yet :P) you maintain the strength to see it through to the end. I KNOW YOU CAN! Hopefully some day soon I will be able to afford a donation to the cause. I do want to make a couple of suggestions though, one you continue with this as far as you have made it might as well just stop altogether and not pick that bad habit back up in a few days. Two, take the money you would have spent on the cancer stix for this past month and donate it for all these good people that helped you in your cause. I realize that wasn't the bet but $200 donation is better than $1000 or even $0 and now its barely enough to buy a good hard drive :D After this month take the money weekly set it aside or in a savings account for a special fund either a new computer (like you really need another) or a vacation. Just something you can use at the end of the year to appreciate all the money your not burning up without anything but health issues to show for it. Again Congrats my friend and may the next few days go by fast for you. |

Well, after suffering through this, and already seeing the money saved, I don't intend to restart. Thanks again to all who have offered words of support. Meow! "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Well, once the cravings are more under control and it's not so much of a fight all the time, I think a better term might be 'relieved' ex-smoker. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Soooo, how'd we do this February 1, 2012? Still on the path. Still making me ornery, still hard to shake the cravings. But still sticking with the program...kitties are happy, I think. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Soooo, how'd we do this February 1, 2012? And it was my pleasure to put $250 on the upload/download server in your honor. I've paid-off that wager, but I'm still betting on you. |

Mark, I have also paid off my wager. $50.00 towards the AP server. And Im glad you didnt give up. I have not smoked since Aug 10th 1989. And every once in a blue moon I still get a craving. But remember this. It is just a phsycological one not a physical one. My birthday is July 31st. If you still are not smoking by that date, I will celebrate My 60th year by giving another $50.00 to the server of your choice. Either the AP or a download/upload server. [/quote] Old James |

Mark My preference would be the up/down server, but either one is just fine if you have a personal preference, my friend. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |
