Thanks.......... Ya know, I have thought, long and hard about posting these thoughts, but I must. First of all.......get lost. Those of us who want to continue the search do not need the continued sniping about the way the project is running at present.........go away. We don't need to hear from you every day how shitty it is. Those of us who have been around for a few years longer than you know the ropes. Or piss off . Sadly, I suspect this is going to be another locked thread soon because it appears it's ok to whine about the project; it's not ok to whine about the whiners. Catharsis for some, but not for all. |

I am able to get new tasks right now. Or have the downloads perhaps got stuck once again? Maybe I will push the Retry button once in a little while if nothing more seems to happen. Is this project successful or not? Has anything been achieved yet? I would like to see a table of the best results been obtained so far by Seti@home under BOINC Manager. However I am unable to find such a list. The only one I can find is the list of candidates at http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/candidates.html, (Comprehensive list of promising Gaussian candidates - http://seticlassic.ssl.berkeley.edu/Candidates/index.html |

Not snipping but... My current guestimates suggests that due to the speed of the outgoing connection that the project can only send out around 95,000 workunits per hour and that's probably on the high side. Now if we have a run of short time to complete workunits, which is what I've been getting, the return rate is greater than the send rate. Translation, people's queues are not going to get filled faster than they are being emptied. Even ignoring the this run of shorties, due to the ever marching drum beat of technological advancement, the raw workunit requirements of those still participating is rapidly reaching this transmission limit. The top 20 participants RAC is over 5% of the project's RAC. There are 150,000 active users, so I'm guessing that the top "1%" (sorry, had to use it) is doing the bulk of the heavy lifting here making little guys like me feel totally irrelevant. I have to stay connected (I'm don't have an always on connection) for at least an hour to get my one or two workunits for the day. I've been told by one of the elite crunchers that people like me are the ones that limit the workunits for them and I should quit. It's like people who own a supercar complaining that the can't properly drive it because of all the people with Hondas and Chevys are clogging the highways. This project was once about donating your excess CPU time for a cause, now it's a rich man's hobby and this makes me sad. I'm still going to crank out my one or two units a day. Maybe someday I can afford to get a better computer and do more. "Life is just nature's way of keeping meat fresh." - The Doctor |

I would like to win the lottery. Maybe only a question of time. Sorry for my sarcasm. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

Hey, man! I am totally aware of the Near-Time Persistency checker, but if you could please forgive me, this list really does not tell me that much. Are you still interested in those spikes, pulses and triplets? Are they part of a possible signal? If the list includes gaussian scores, what are the corresponding numbers for power, fit and score for these candidates and how do they compare or match with those candidates which are listed on the "Classic" web-pages? Please explain this to me! And a little edit to this: Hopefully Seti@home is still dependant on its loyal bunch of crunchers. Correct? |

Timber! And you do perhaps not notice my 10,2 million credit on PrimeGrid? |

Clicking on the links in the mentioned Near-Time Persistency Checker section, I am still unable to deduce how one pulse with a score of 0.83 makes it to this list while another similar pulse may not do the same thing. In my case I sort the numbers I have (preferably on the scores in descending order, meaning the best or highest at the top of my "list"). Am I interpreting this wrong, perhaps? And if I read the threads correctly, all of this goes by the name of "shorties storm". What I get is not what I really would like to have. Is it possible to have something "else", or would that rather be just an "error of sorts"? |

Seti was more fun before it was merged with the Psychology Department research into how much stress a public cooperative effort can withstand. |

Is the Pshychology Department research "result oriented"? Edit on this: Time is now 00:47 AM here. Was out in the kitchen less than a hour ago preparing some food to eat and had this magnificent waning half moon coming up above the hills on the other side of town. Great sight and a reminder of what we are doing sitting in front of our PC's. |

Timber! If you did not notice........ You are on the Seti boards now....... PG credits do not hold a candle to Seti creds. Don't even start to get my dander up about that. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

Yeh! Yeh! Yeh! I completely understand the lack of understanding of the current subject. Anyway, Sten-Arne has a credit of more than 2,955,000 on his host 4750254. And Mark Sattler is approaching 170 million in credit. Not too bad! So therefore, a question for both of you: Can you possibly get QNAN (or Q.N.A.N) in the Gaussian table - or would that be wrong? Anyway, I do not have such a thing. |
