As they can't get work there is no point in burning up the electricity keeping them going. My Big 3, Quads plus 3 x GTX470, 3 x GTX285 and 2 x GTX 580 respectively have only received a dozen units between them in the last 24 hours. Interestingly, the two minor crunchers with 2 x GTS250's each are having no problems. One is on the limits and the other is workng towards it with 75 pending downloads as I type this and the one on the limit just scored another 30. There does seem to be a bias against the more powerful rigs in the work allocation. A GTS250 takes 3 1/2 minutes to crunch a shorty compared to 2 minutes for a GTX285, not a terrible lot of difference, so it isn't just that the more powerful rigs chew through the same number of WU's in a shorter time. If it was just a matter of crunching time vs work allocation all my rigs would be running dry. The Big Rigs are not being given the work to begin with. T.A. |

Maybe I should set NNT here so you can have a chance as I've been constantly downloading them all day, its just a shame that most are shorties but I have picked up several VLAR's and the odd Astro resend. Cheers. |

you could also setup a backup project to get you through the lean times. In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

Maybe You should be running Boinc 6.10.58 instead of 6.12.xx. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |

Ive found that my P4 never lacks for work while the I7 with its GTS 250 was choking and gagging for work. As stated in another thread I got tired of baby sitting it and went to my backup project. To be fair though the I7 is running 6.12.33 and the P4 6.10.58. I figure I will take a week or two off of Seti@Home till we get some news on whats going on. Meanwhile the Old P4 is chugging along. I know I could downgrade to 6.10.58 but Im to stinking lazy, And the way I figure it they will have version 7 out soon enough. I will donate all my work from my dead Mac to you all though, I notice that some are timing out now. [/quote] Old James |

Maybe You should be running Boinc 6.10.58 instead of 6.12.xx. I don't thing version is the problem here. Yes 6.12.xx is bad version, but problem to the server or bandwidth is the main problem. I can't remember seti works for more than 2 weeks perfectly from the October of 2010 and here. So, me too i am shutting down 2 of my rigs. My main cruncher with 5 gpus and a smaller one. I hope others are much more patient from me. |

you could also setup a backup project to get you through the lean times. I've got WCG running as a backup project but they're CPU only. I'll pull the heavy duty GPU's out and save myself about 1.6kW of sparks an hour. Maybe You should be running Boinc 6.10.58 instead of 6.12.xx. I am, I've never used 6.12 and wouldn't touch it with a barge pole. I took notice of all the nasty comments posted about 6.12 while it was still in Beta. Plus I'm one of those weird beasts that only "upgrade" if the new version is a genuine improvement on the old. T.A. |

I feel badly that I have had to resort to launching Einstein on some of my best Seti rigs just to keep the house warm. Not that Einstein is an unworthy project, but it's just not where my heart lies. I still have hope that we can get into some data from Arecibo that is not all fast scan work resulting in almost all shorty WUs, the server code will finally be patched, the limits lifted, and some degree of 'normal' or at least continued Seti crunching can be restored to the kitties' crunching farm. There is much progress being made towards the purchase and donation of some new hard drives for Arecibo data transfer and a new raid array, as well as a new Astropulse server. See the GPUUG fund raising drive for more news on that. And please send some kibble if you can. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |

TA-I've been able to get WU's without a problem....I don't see an issue with running Seti along with a separate project to fill in the gaps. |

TA-I've been able to get WU's without a problem....I don't see an issue with running Seti along with a separate project to fill in the gaps. Blurf, like many others here none of my machines can upload or download with any consistency. Atm I have all 5 machines with stuck uploads and a couple with stuck downloads, 19 out of 20 requests for new work get the "No Tasks Available", "No Tasks Sent" or "Unable To Contact Server" error messages. On some boxes there are uploads with nearly an hour of elapsed time and they're still stuck. Even 6.10.58 is in a 3 hour "project backoff". Using a proxy doesn't help. It appears to be a server side problem. I'm sick of button pushing. It just isn't worth the hassle anymore. I'll keep the minor crunchers going to monitor the situation but as I said in my OP "As they can't get work there is no point in burning up the electricity keeping the big rigs going. EDIT: The weird thing is pings and trace routes to the servers all looks good, so it's not a networking problem T.A. |

I have only a small machine (E7600 + GTX260) compared to T.A. - and BOINC don't get enough WUs for 24/7 S@h. BOINC DL WUs of secondary projects for to hold warm the chips. Continuously backlogged ULs & DLs at S@h.. - sometimes a few go up or down.. Really annoying.. :-( , I never saw this in past. It's again the S@h router which was buggy for a short time? Or now the S@h server? - Best regards! - Sutaru Tsureku, team seti.international founder. - Optimize your PC for higher RAC. - SETI@home needs your help. - |

Just remember Blurf that you are on the same continent as the servers which will make a big difference but where T.A. is he has 6 or more hops to make before he even gets to our undersea connections to your continent than I do to get there and you'll have less hops to make than me and that's not to mention that a lot of his systems are more hungrier than either of our's plus he's not the only one having these connection problems (also some people don't won't to run a backup project or 2/3 for that matter). ;) Cheers. |

The same problem here, can´t DL/UL to keep the GPUs warm. There is a new rule on SETI, faster your ring, more problem you have to keep your GPUs working, even with the use of a proxy. Its very clear the problem is in the "core of Seti" itself not in the outside world, something need to be done quickly or more and more people will realy start to shutting down the "big rigs" because they are running empty. |

I am getting SETI work both on my Linux host and my Solaris Virtual machine, thanks to Dotsch. I have a small cache and am running 6 other BOINC projects, including Test4Theory by CERN, which is hunting the Higgs Boson, using a Virtual Machine. I am never out of work. Tullio |

Things aren't looking very good right now in the SETI world. I just about have everything together for my new Red rig (Q9550, 3x GTX 295) but now I'm having 2nd thoughts since I can't even keep my current two rigs crunching 24/7. So Red might become a Bitcoin miner instead. Anyone tried this yet? It seems to have a lot in common with S@H as it uses GPU HP. I've even seen mining rigs using PCIe extenders so they can run 8 cards off of one MB. My Computers: â–ˆ Blue Offline â–ˆ Green Offline â–ˆ Red Offline |

As they can't get work there is no point in burning up the electricity keeping them going. I have been wondering the same as my laptop does not seem to have a problem yet the dual 580s seem to breath fumes (diving term - they get no to very little work). the dual 295 seems to fare a little better than the dual 580s and does not seem to have the same problems downloading wus ...
