Be very wary.........

"For us, Europe is not only our destiny but also our desire. It is the lesson we learnt. Please understand for us Europe is much more than a currency or a single market... It is a political union we want."

They learnt all right! 1939-45 failed, so now they're looking at "a peaceful integration". Without the Marshall Plan, they would still be licking their wounds since 1945!

We had the USSR, are we now looking at USSE?

The BBC's diplomatic correspondent James Robbins said the tone of the press conference suggested a clear attempt by Berlin to calm recent tensions after 10 days of wrangling about who was to blame for the UK's decision to veto the EU agreement.

No wrangling necessary, it was caused by France. Admit it Germany you feel
like kicking Sarkozy's butt over all this. Cameron has got that lot by their
short and curlies, he could ask for the world and they would give it to him.
That lot desperately needs the UK in, if we stay adrift as we are now they
know a referendum could seriously be on the cards. We know, they know what
the result from this referendum would be. We go, and after we go others are
sure to follow suit; end to the ECM, pain and strife for France.

Much of mainland Europe owes a great deal to the US for the Marshall Plan (fwiw the UK does as well). As for USS*, are all Unions post 1917 bound to be on the Soviet model? To put if another way, we have the USofA, is the USofE such a scary proposition?

All seems to have gone a bit quiet of late, they have all thrown their
toys out of their prams and now all most probably talking to each other again.

That's how international politics works. PM's and their various policies come and go, it's the Civil Servants of each country that have to carry on the day to day business behind the scenes, and keep talking.

Of course the UK will continue to play a part in Europe, we have to, otherwise we have no control over all the madcap ideas coming out of Brussela. But we have to negotiate a better position than we have at present, which is what Cameron highlighted, Haig confirmed, and what we will do.

Onething I know the world would be a better place without Sarkozy, he already demonstrated some fascist lite politics.

Also he seems not to like the UK very much

Sarkozy is known for wanting to revitalize the economy of France. In foreign affairs he has promised a strengthening of the entente cordiale with the United Kingdom, and closer cooperation with the United State

He has a funny way of going about it ....

I just wounder would the ECM have turned out better had the USA been allowed
to have more of an influence upon it's aims and objectives over all these years.

I wounder then, "Has he gone into panic mode".
Cameron could always invite him over here to do a bit of Christmas shopping
in Oxford Street...now that would break the ice between them!
All Sarkozy has to do to win us Brits over is to walk down Oxford Street
along with a pint of beer in one hand, a bag of fish and chips in the other,
saying, "Eee-by-gum" this is lovely, it ain't arf' turned out nice again" and it's game set and match to him.

This states what it wants to be in clear unadulterated language....

"It is a political union we want."

The USA is made up of 50 States where as the "So-called" USSE will be made up of 28 countries......it'll never work as the USSR proved...just look to the history of US States.........

I rather think he might get arrested for giving a very bad George Formby impression!

John as per the profecy of the Mayas, it looks like that the end of the qorld will be on the 22nd of Dec of 2012.

Just another miss interpretation of the Maya calendar. It seems that mankind after all this years still think that earth is the centre of the universe.

From the cosmology point of view, predictions of the future are simple nonsense, on the other hand, see the pros if the profecy is true. Imagine all the money you will save as there will be no need to buy any xmas gifts next year... LOL
