One minute they're moaning about other countries & the next they're forcing said countries to say "YES" when the countries concerned said "NO" This is the results...... An error They won't let it happen as they know that if it happens, the EU is finished, so cannot understand all the whinging! |

"Greece has time and again explained that it wants to remain in the euro. It has major weaknesses but it is trying to overcome them, be they in the administration or the competitiveness of their business community. Agree if only one country leaves...but Italy, France, Spain Portugal, Ireland - that's 25% of the EU in trouble - WILL Germany pay for them all? |

What's this I heard on NPR about a Cameron aide bragging that for the UK equivilent of $400,000 you can have a face to face meal with Cameron and put your 2 cents in to influence his Gov't. $80k will get you a group meal. How pleasant that the Brits have learned something from the American politicians. NExt they'll be offering Overnight stays at 10 Downing in the bed Thatcher occupied. If left to their own currencies I suspect they might have done better. Then again, they would not have enjoyed the Euro bubble boost they got for 10 years or so. |

I don't think currency will have any effect anymore, negative or positive. I feel that's history. The modern age has brought a true world economy. The historically well off nations will hurt for many years while the true value of their moneys moves ever closer to the value of the lesser nations money. While everything balances out the dollar and euro and similar will be worth less and less, and the once lesser currencies will become worth more and corporate greed will eat that up like everything else, until someday the lack of distributed wealth on this planet will have 99.999% of us all struggling. [quote]Economically and productively, China has become the 1950's USA. Who wants to move with me? (Obviously I kidd, I just wish for better for everyone) Depends on whether they can grow their home consumption fast enough to keep pace with their exports. It was home consumption that enabled America to start booming they way they did and also to maintain this growth too. Can China achieve the same?...that is the over-riding question... Keeping an eye out for rising standards of living in China will give you the answer to this. The thing is, for China there are some real issues. One, the hinterland, where hundreds of millions of Chinese live, is still VERY poor. Two, demographics -- one of the issues with the Chinese strict handling of 'one child' per couple is that China is entering into a phase of aging -- big time. In 25 years, the average age in China is going to be older than that of the US and approach that of Europe. India has a different issue -- their population (which is about to outstrip that of China) is going to be very difficult to move out of poverty -- the educated classes -- sure, but the vast bulk of India remains even more poverty struck than China. The thing is, for both China and India, if only 25 to 30 per cent of your population is middle class and up, that is MORE than the entire population of the US. Economically and productively, China has become the 1950's USA. Who wants to move with me? (Obviously I kidd, I just wish for better for everyone) |

I don't think china has followed or enforced one child rule in quite some time. I could be mistaken however. curious. #resist |

Crazy. But I'm confused how has their population boomed then? If this rule was enforced and followed, wouldn't china's population have halved by now instead of grown? #resist |

Crazy. But I'm confused how has their population boomed then? If this rule was enforced and followed, wouldn't china's population have halved by now instead of grown? It was only really applied to the masses in town and cities, oouldn't be policed in rural area's and the rich or party members could always find a way round the law. And you have to wait until the first generations under this law have died out to see the real consequences and the decrease in population. |
