Onething I know the world would be a better place without Sarkozy, he already demonstrated some fascist lite politics.

Also he seems not to like the UK very much

Sarkozy is known for wanting to revitalize the economy of France. In foreign affairs he has promised a strengthening of the entente cordiale with the United Kingdom, and closer cooperation with the United State

He has a funny way of going about it ....

I just wounder would the ECM have turned out better had the USA been allowed
to have more of an influence upon it's aims and objectives over all these years.

I wounder then, "Has he gone into panic mode".
Cameron could always invite him over here to do a bit of Christmas shopping
in Oxford Street...now that would break the ice between them!
All Sarkozy has to do to win us Brits over is to walk down Oxford Street
along with a pint of beer in one hand, a bag of fish and chips in the other,
saying, "Eee-by-gum" this is lovely, it ain't arf' turned out nice again" and it's game set and match to him.

As we have always known, we can work with Germany, not with France ...

BBC latest

Be very wary.........

"For us, Europe is not only our destiny but also our desire. It is the lesson we learnt. Please understand for us Europe is much more than a currency or a single market... It is a political union we want."

They learnt all right! 1939-45 failed, so now they're looking at "a peaceful integration". Without the Marshall Plan, they would still be licking their wounds since 1945!

We had the USSR, are we now looking at USSE?

Much of mainland Europe owes a great deal to the US for the Marshall Plan (fwiw the UK does as well). As for USS*, are all Unions post 1917 bound to be on the Soviet model? To put if another way, we have the USofA, is the USofE such a scary proposition?

This states what it wants to be in clear unadulterated language....

"It is a political union we want."

The USA is made up of 50 States where as the "So-called" USSE will be made up of 28 countries......it'll never work as the USSR proved...just look to the history of US States.........

I rather think he might get arrested for giving a very bad George Formby impression!

He does have the right sort of face for it though and he's "short enough"!!

Speaking of the "END" it's only 11 months and 28 days away.

John as per the profecy of the Mayas, it looks like that the end of the qorld will be on the 22nd of Dec of 2012.

Just another miss interpretation of the Maya calendar. It seems that mankind after all this years still think that earth is the centre of the universe.

From the cosmology point of view, predictions of the future are simple nonsense, on the other hand, see the pros if the profecy is true. Imagine all the money you will save as there will be no need to buy any xmas gifts next year... LOL

Perhaps, a slogan, for a new European Union:

EU

Political Unity

with

Economic Flexibility

*

Not wanting to appear too much in favor of complete laissez-faire
capitalism, it still seems that a complete return to individual
countries' currencies would be a welcome relief from the crude
attempts to micro-manage the EU. If the Market is left to decide --
with, perhaps, better safe-guards -- the heads of state can head for
Baden-Baden, et al, for a well-deserved rest.

Times have changed, and no WWIII -- at least, of European origin --
will result in many life-times (at least).

Chris, we all know what drove the British to a global empire -- it was the need to get some decent cuisine.

Well, given a choice between Beef Wellington and Chicken Tikka Masala, what would you choose?

Oh, and I'm sure you realize this, a bunch of those 'Indian' restaurants are actually Pakistani.

Is that why we have so many Indian restaurants?

Interesting choices, Beef Wellington is likely a French dish ("filet de bœuf en croûte"), Chicken Tikka Masala may well be a dish created in the UK (based on styles from the sub-continent), and has since traveled the world.

Of course the second fermentation process that creates Champagne is a British invention ...
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

OK -- how about a choice between bangers and mash and lamb vindaloo.

As to French wine, my preference is more toward an English choice -- hard cider.

More interesting choices. Sausages (aka bangers) are of pre-historic origin, they were certainly eaten by the Ancient Greeks, while mash is a New World food. Vindaloo got its name from the Portuguese, and if a Vindaloo has potatoes it's likely an anglicized version of the Portuguese named Indian dish. Of course the use of chili peppers is also taken from the New World.

Judging by this site modern cider (in the UK, aka hard cider in the US) is likely of French origin, though that source may be a little biased. This source suggests a different history ...
