I tried our favorite proxy here a few times in the last couple of days, and it no longer works for me either.

Listen, and understand. That 6.10.60 is out there. It can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are downloaded.

;)

That all depends on how hungry your machine is.

The secret is look at the first few pages of top computers, if the majority are using a certain version of Boinc or Video driver etc its probably OK, If they ain't then there is a reason why not.

Proxy still works here on the office machine, but not at home. One mile apart, but different ISP's. Odd.

Yup, a swift glance at the top three says it all.

Taking a look at the Top 20 computers, 17 of 20 are using 6.10.XX I think they might be on to something.

I'm using 6.12.34 and my backoff times go like this:
15 minutes
1 hour
5 hours
2012
2018

... you get what I mean...

So, my question is:
What is the process to "rollback" to 6.10.60 ??

No new tasks until everything is caught up?
Do you have to then completely uninstall BOINC ? Or just overtop.
Where do you get 6.10.60?
I'm using the Lunatics version of my current 6.12.34

Sorry for all the questions, but my backoff time just hit the year 2032,
and I want to find a work-around.

:)

You can install over the top. I'd suspend network communication first simply as a precaution. That has helped me avoid problems when something goes wrong. Make sure you use the same data directory location or you will have big problems. The Lunatics apps are in that data directory and will not be affected by the over the top install. I've made the round trip 3 times w/o a problem.

I guess I messed it up :( I installed over the top and when I tried to start it back up, I got a message "Boinc Client has stopped working"

When I open the client, none of the projects, WU's, etc are listed.

Should I uninstall BOINC and reinstall?

Will my data files be ok?

Will it remember me, lol?

Thanks :)

After installing an older version of Boinc over the top of a newer version, you have to run the older installer a 2nd time and do a repair.

(or you uninstall the newer version first, then install the older version)

As said here, but there is a litle trick...
The safest way is to suspend all work and exit Boinc (choosing to stop the client)

Then uninstall 6.12 before intalling 6.10 or else you will need to run the installer twice as the the first installation of the 6.10 on top of 6.12 will tell you that something was not properly upgraded so do not try to start Boinc in this point, run the installer a 2nd time and choose the repair option before running it again.

Ive did it in this way in my 3 rigs and everything went right.

(EDIT: Claggy already said this before, in this thread...)

OK, I'll install the older version again (2nd time) and see how it goes.

Thanks Claggy.

I reinstalled the older version. It has helped a lot.
With direct connect to Seti I have had no backoff issues.
So at this point I think I should be fine, until the next problem.

I'm running 6.10.58. Any advantage to going up to 6.10.60? I've stayed away from the 6.12 series. Heard too many bad comments about them as far as back offs and such goes.

Probably some minor changes between the two but I very much doubt if there is any performance related differences between them, running 6.10.58 myself.

Remember the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

How many times do you upgrade software to find its full of features you will never use and its harder to use and slower than the earlier version.

Sometimes an upgrade is esential, but how often are there problems with the latest thing on the block.

One bit of functionality that was changed in BOINC Manager after 6.10.48. The ability to clear the retry values for transfers when you suspend network activity. In versions after you get a message when trying to do so that network activity is suspended. It is just one of those undocumented changes, but for how I use BOINC I found it annoying.

So I use BOINC Manager 6.10.48 with BOINC 6.12.33.
