Since you don't have newer ATI cards, I also recommend you "downgrade" your boinc to version 6.10.60.
It is not possible to achieve anything with 6.12.x on seti due to its ridiculous back-off times.


For which ATI cards do you need 6.12.x? I have an ATI Radeon HD 5750.

As I mentioned before I posted to the BOINC mailing list regarding the backoff. In the release notes for 7.0.3 (which is an alpha-test version) they have this one liner:

client: tweak parameters of file xfer backoff to reduce backoff intervals somewhat


As to how much it has been reduced by I don't know as I haven't tried hitting Seti for work yet.

I'm still using 6.12.34 ; 2x x86 (WIN XP) & 2x X64(WIN XP & WIN 7), DLoads
are slow and back-off times can get to several hours, but they're all getting work.

About using a proxy, MODEM/ROUTERS appear to have differences, I'm still
able to connect without a proxy.

[trac]changeset:24775[/trac]: individual files will be backed off by between a minimum of two minutes (down from ten), and a maximum of six hours (down from twelve) - no change that I can see to the project backoffs.

Can't comment on the results here either - no transfers pending at the moment on that box.
