I've had 3 PC's starving all day.

In the last hour or so I've picked up at least 4 per machine.

It's a start!! I'm happier now!!

Everyone... Let's stop whining and give them to chance to work out some issues. Try to stay positive!! :)

Hey, I'm positive this is a car-wreck that we all slow down to check out on the freeway!

I'm positive that these were issues in the beta for the last 7 months that weren't fixed!

I'm also positive that this software was nowhere ready for a public launch! (i've been running it since Dec 2003, have you?)

Positive enough for you?

BOINC will be accepting cheerleader applications as soon as they have a stable website and system - I'm positive!)

Hey how abot we give everyone who is working hard to feed our machines a BIG THANK YOU! For working like tireless dogs, they debug lines of code, drink mass quantities of JOLT cola (had to give a plug). Yes we are all salivating for the moment when we see our machines get their golden data packet and start crunching data! Am I positive??? YES I am, and I AM C A N A D I A N ! ! HAPPY CANADA DAY! EH!

The place to "fix" it is in alpha or beta, not R1.

Release is where you "fix" minor bugs, features, and tweaks.

No WU's for days, is not a minor bug, feature, tweak, IMO.

But, in all fairness, the s/w doesn't seem to be the prob, as much as the infrastructure.

The estimated demand that is occurring was pretty easy to foresee by most anyone. The lack of a proper infrastructure implies either incompetence or arrogant disregard.

I lean towards the latter.

Yes, one has to realize the processing monster that Berkeley has created in SETI. The funding for the infrastructure I'm sure has not kept pace with the processing power. So, for now, my cpu's will twiddle there chips.

Cheer to one and all.

It looks like I got 1 WU overnight, so at least they may be getting closer to getting it working again. Hopefully by the end of today we may be able to get some WU's or we will be dead in the water for the weekend I assume...

For Those who suggest patience, It would be a lot easier to be patient if there was actual honest status posted at some predictable rate. I have little sympathy or patience for a team that posted (on the clasic site) that the service will be down for an hour or two and kep that notice up for more than 24 hours. I have not seen any information about what is happening since yesterday morning when they basicxally said "we are doing more stuff." A simple statmen like, "we are having problems, we will post updated status each day at xx:yy." would make me much more patient(as long as they followed through).

I understand the frustration and I agree that these issues should have been resolved before it was launched but we just have to live with what we have. Complaining to each other doesn't help and only makes some of us sound like babies. It's a volunteer project and if it bothers anyone so much you don't have to do it. They are only human and mistakes and underestimations happen for them like anyone else. Then add in the computer and network variable (we all know they can surprise the best of us with unexpected failures) and there is the potential for downtime.

Sure... rip on me and say how I wasn't in the beta and don't know anything, true I wasn't. But I recognize wasted complaining like anyone else should. I've been on and off of S@H1 since the beginning and I know that this project is also run by mostly students and on a shoestring budget.

I'm not trying to preach here... sorry if I sounded like it. I'm just saying that some positive reinforcement and appreciation will get us farther then any whining and negative talk.

Maybe if it wasn't such a fire pit around here we might get someone to post more often. I think I'd be reluctant to jump in with info too If I was going to be attacked.

Peace all.... have a beer or two

Back on topic: picked up a few more WU's overnight Not many but all my PC"s are busy for the moment. :)

Wahoo! Got one WU to crunch on!

Looks like they are getting things rolling again! I'm sure it was a problem with too many systems trying to get WUs all at the same time.

You know what would be cool, which I don't thing they have? (Correct me please if I am wrong) A page that listed the currently available WUs they have available on the server.
