Refferring to this thread: http://setiathome.berkeley.ed/forum_thread.php?id=66119
and having the need to change proxy data in all my host (near and far) I think that could be usefull to have the possibility to set proxy data in on central point (BOINC preferences, in the communication part) so that this is applied to all our hosts, at first contact.
I know that "These apply to all BOINC projects in which you participate" and I don't know if this can be a problem or not but can be usefull to bypass actual problems (packet loss) communicating with berkeley.

This will probably not happen.
Maintaining list of proxies is beyond what BOINC could (or will and should) manage.

Wy?
We (users) have to set proxy data, as we can do locally just now.

Oops. I answered this in the wrong thread. Shouldn't be in the wish list.
However, proxies that you can use for communication to get SETI data belongs to companies that are not associated to Bercley.
There are lots of proxies how can do this.
But they can change over time so what works today may not work tomorrow.
The best way to know if a proxy works or not is to try and secondly ask this community.
And we don't have to set proxy data, it is optional because of the strange problems with downloads we all suffers from.

Often the proxy settings are required to get to the internet at all, and in those cases, BOINC cannot get to a central location to get the proxy information without the proxy information already input in the first place.

Yes, I understand.
In this moment the problem mentioned here http://setiathome.berkeley.ed/forum_thread.php?id=66119 can have a solution using proxies because we have only some (or a lot of) packet loss but some communication can be established.
So it's possibile to move the information "use this proxy" (the proxy that I choose) from central server to clients. Of cours if that proxy goes down forever, I will change data ony locally, on clients.
