The extreme edition chips are generally just low end server chips marketed to a different segment for those willing to pay for it. Honestly I would rather just buy the Xeon version. Same money and you get a few nicer features.

Yeah that's the impression I got too, Me I'm looking at getting a Xeon x3430-x3450 cpu for My EVGA P55 classified 200 motherboard, the Xeons are supported in the Bios I was told, I've also been told that 8GB reg/ecc dimms have not been tested on the motherboard, but that they should work since the controller on the cpu supports reg/ecc ram up to 32GB...
