Francesco, The Proxy is not just for SETI. In 2009, after the Iranian elections, the regime there cut off internet access through many routes. In order to get around this the people used many proxies in many different countries to get their message out. As fast as the regime would block one IP the people would switch to another proxy and would be good to go again for another little while. If, for some reason, you are trying to reach a website in another country and find a bad or blocked router in the path your IP uses then you can go to a proxy in another location to get around that bad router. Orioneti We are all in the same boat, the servers are very heavily loaded and can't supply tasks fast enough to keep up with the demand. Some, like you, myself and a number of others are also having problems with a slow and flakey connection or none at all. This depends on where you live, you ISP, the route your packets take between SAH and your computer and the will of capricious gods. What might help is to set up your BOINC client to use this proxy server 69.163.96.2 port 8080 It won't help you get allocated more tasks but when you get they will download much quicker. T.A. I havent been able to download/upload even a single bit (tried spamming retry too, doesnt help). Uploads are working right? Surely my upload problems should not have anything to do with the limited download bandwidth SETI has? Is it possible that the PAIX router is acting again.. still insufficient memory ,corrupted tables or something else? I have also tried 69.163.96.2 port 8080 proxy server and it doesnt work either. Recently I had 5 or 6 machine at work that were not able to connect. I spent several hours on one of the boxes trying to sort out what was going on without much luck. Then I noticed some of the log files were much lager then the normal 2mb. Ended up after deleting std*.txt & time_stats_log they were able to connect again. Those machine had stdoutdae.txt files that were around 30-50mb & I don't have the flags set to allow a large file size. Then I noticed some of the log files were much lager then the normal 2mb. Tried this one too, but it didnt help. There were several files >2mb in the BOINC folder and i deleted them all. Thanks for trying though :) Boy this is strange indeed... :P Detached from the SETI project, removed BOINC and all of its directories. Downloaded it again from SETI@home website. Installed it reattached to SETI@home and it was working just fine for the first 10 minutes, even downloaded several workunits (without any problems >50kb download rate). Then got it finished and when i tried to upload it.. nothing.. HTTP errors etc. Whats even funnier now, i'm able to download (>100kb rate) workunits, but at the same time i'm unable to upload them :D ID: 1172281 · |

Seuranta suoritettu.Anyway, here are the symptoms i'm experiencing after i reattach to the project... <10 mins: Downloads and work requests are working excellently >100kb download rate, no idea about uploads since none of the workunits are ready yet. >10 mins: Donwloads and work requests are still working pretty well (some work requests might fail), cannot upload anything. >30 mins: Work requests fail totally, dunno about downlods (none stuck atleast), cannot upload anything either. Result: I get to crunch maybe 20-50 work units which results i'm unable to upload. This could go on for weeks or until i detach and reattach to the project. Edit: Now that i've checked BOINC manager logs a little more carefully i've noticed that after i have 20-50 work units clients work requests are not getting through anymore (| SETI@home | Scheduler request failed: Timeout was reached) , but the downloading might still work if i could just get some work requests through. Francesco, Ok, thank (I know it). I was only asking why to select a particular country. By the way, I have written a post in "wish list" to suggest a proxy configuration for all our hosts in boinc preference (in web account configuration). See: http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=66175#1172447 Of course this neeed a change in web pages, central database and local client (boinc manager) It's not necessary if someone have only one host, near him, but can be good if someone have 20 hosts far and unattedend. Francesco, I had said "You can filter by country and other items to find the one that works best for you.". Depending on where the location you want to connect to is located. You probably want to use a proxy near that area. Like the proxy that seems to be in the San Francisco area works well. Where one in Mexico or Japan may not. I was about to say that when I looked at the server status page a few minutes ago, the upload server was not running. However, I just checked it again and now it is. Anybody know how long it was down? If it was down yesterday when you weren't able to upload, that would be why. Also, the cricket graphs look pretty wonky for yesterday. Looks like they've turned off that proxy -- I started getting "connect() failed" messages a little while ago. Scratched my head, stopped, flushed DNS, started and then got a message to check connections and proxy settings. Stopped using the proxy and data started flowing again. ID: 1172766 · |

Scratched my head, stopped, flushed DNS, started and then got a message to check connections and proxy settings. Stopped using the proxy and data started flowing again. I was just about to post the same thing, looks the Sysadmin started blocking IP's at around 21:30 UTC. If they're a SAH cruncher, Thanks very much for your time and bandwidth it was a big help. The ratio for time to process vs size for AP tasks is much shorter than that of standard MB tasks. The ratio may even be lower than that of shorties. You mean if everything is working properly, there is sufficient bandwidth to handle all the MB traffic and the graph drops because there's not enough demand to keep it maxed?
