Hello Everyone,

The GPU Users Group, Inc. is proud to debut another way in which the SETI@Home community can directly contribute to the SETI Project -- by making donations for specific pieces of hardware and software.

Backstory:

The members of the GPUUG community decided several months ago that we would like to help contribute to SETI@Home in a manner similar to our efforts in building and providing SETI with the server "Synergy." To do this we gathered a small group of dedicated individuals and got to work.

On 09-AUG-2011 we were given our official registration with the State of Delaware as a non-profit/charitable corporation and on 01-DEC-2011 we will be filing for 501c3 (non-profit) status with the IRS so that upon approval, donors will enjoy tax exempt status on their donations to the GPU Users Group, Inc.

What We Do:

The GPU Users Group, Inc. has a very simple directive: to promote scientific achievement through facilitating hardware, software and monetary donations to recognized scientific bodies by providing an easy-to-use service that allows interested parties to make those donations to the project or campaign of their choosing.

We are staffed entirely by volunteers and have had most of our required resources donated by parties who share our common goals. This allows us to proudly promise that 100% of all donated funds will be directed toward furthering our directive.

Here's how you can help:

1. Visit http://www.gpuug.org
2. While at the website you'll notice several things. On the left is our "Make a Donation" link through which interested parties may donate via PayPal, check or money order toward the specific projects we are working on at the time. You can also visit http://www.gpuug.org/donate to see which fund-raisers are currently active and in progress.
3. Donors can designate the projects to which they would like to contribute funds. Currently we are running fund-raisers for a large RAID array, its hard disk drives, and an Astropulse / NTPCKR dedicated server.
4. All donations made to an item in a specific project, but after its goal has been reached will be applied to another fund-raiser within the same project. We will not move the donation into the general fund without the donor's permission.

Tracking your donation:

1. Upon making a donation, you will receive an email from the GPU Users Group, Inc. confirming your donation. If you donated via PayPal, you will also receive an email from PayPal.
2. On the main page of http://www.gpuug.org you'll notice our donation tracker, which is a real time tracker that shows you up-to-date information on how our current fund-raisers are progressing, along with the goal of each fund-raiser.
3. All donations are tracked via our Donation Tracker and are visible on this page http://www.gpuug.org/donationlist.

How is your donation used?

1. Upon receiving the required dollars for a particular project, the GPU Users Group, Inc. will then take the donated funds, purchase the campaign's items, and ship them to the project recipient.
2. You can track these purchases via this link http://www.gpuug.org/purchases
3. During our inaugural campaign, donors contributed enough for the purchase of the 4-Drive SATA HDD Dock and 3TB transport Hard drives for SETI@Home. By visiting the link http://www.gpuug.org/purchases interested parties can see what items we have purchased, what we paid for them including tax and shipping, to whom the item was shipped, and tracking information and delivery confirmation. For example the SATA Dock was purchased on 01-NOV-2011 from Newegg, shipped to SETI@Home via UPS (tracking number 1Z18257503672475652) and was delivered on 03-NOV-2011.

Interested in helping? Donate Now!

Thank you! --The GPU Users Group, Inc.

You bet. It was a group effort by several people to get this up and running.

Hopefully together the GPU Users Group and donors interested in helping SETI at Home will be able to do some good together.

Great website! I like the way the Goals are clearly defined and detailed. Tracking number is a nice touch as well.

To bad hard drive prices are crazy right now.

Great! The plan right now is to award green stars once a week based on donations over $15. Big thanks to the SETI at Home Moderator team for taking on the extra duty of awarding the stars for us. They're really a great bunch of guys and girls.

We seem to have come to a halt on the fundraising. I would like to help jump start this. Anyone willing and able to make a min 1000.00 donation, I will match, up to a max 3000.00 total. If someone will donate 3000.00 or 3 someone's will donate 1000.00, then we will have added a total of 6000.00 to the cause. I sure wish I drank, I might need to if I tell my wife about this;-)

Wow you guys blew the RAID Box drive fundraiser out of the water.

For folks donating, please pick either the Astropulse Server or the RAID Hard Drive fundraiser to donate for now.

Due to the Thailand flooding, we're still having issues finding hard drives (much like the rest of the world). The good news is, they'll become available in an estimated 4-6 weeks.

Regarding the Astropulse server, we can start building that just as soon as the funds are received thanks to our corporate partner NKOL.

Who else would like to step and and be the next 1000.00 donor. I still have 2 more donors I will match that amount for, or if you really want to make a splash, donate 2000.00 and I will match that.

Looking at the purchases it shows a tracking number for the quick rails. Does that mean the rails are turning up before the RAID enclosure or are they bundled together?

Done again. Now let's see if we can get a few more people here interested in helping out. Come on, I've got another 1000.00 to spare here. It would be great if anyone else would like to help out and match funds also. The more the merrier.

The RAID box is being drop shipped from the manufacturer this week, I'll update everyone here and on http://www.gpuug.org once it ships.

We're currently:

$8,222 from the SETI Dedicated Astropulse Server

and

$5,328 from reaching our goal of filling the RAID box (already purchased) with 45 2TB Enterprise Class hard drives.

Even if you can only donate $5, please do so. Each little bit donors send in helps us get closer to our goal of getting SETI running more efficiently.

Thanks everyone.
