noob here,just installed bionic to run seti and after a while i got the above message on the bionic front page.what does it mean? also why did it take about 5 mins to d/l only 8mb of file size? was running @ about 27kbps very very slow.

SETI@Home has over 500,000 active computers all vying for the same 100Mb internet connection (100 Megabits is about 12.5 MegaBytes per second). Essentially the pipes are clogged with users requesting work and asking for more.

Because of this, there may be times when users run out of work or are unable to retrieve more, which is why they are encouraged to join multiple projects that interest them to keep their computers busy.


Oh, and people will be quick to point out that you are in fact using software called BOINC, not "bionic". BOINC stands for the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing.

bionic is from the television show The Six Million Dollar Man. Though the S@H staff seems super human they are indeed not BIOINC

100mb,that makes sense now.i left it running and went to work and lo and behold when upon returning home i was greeted by a pc nicely humming away to itself!! seems to have preferred to start and crunch without my interference.anyhoo thanx for the reply's guys!
