This is a program managed by the SSA(Social Security Administration) and SSI is not Social Security, SSI is for Seniors, the Blind and Disabled people, Those who get SS(Retirement) and SSDI can also receive SSI as It was meant as a supplement, some who're Disabled get SSI, due to medical problems that require valid medical proof, both physical and mental, education of the person is also considered as well as being able to be gainfully employed and being employed must be substantial too, SSA is nothing if not rigorous.

Is there some fraud? Sure and It's rooted out by SSA and the FBI behind the scenes as quickly as an investigation can be done, once SSA has the money to do so with of course.

Do I like fraud? Hell No.

There is some portion of fraud and false dealing in nearly every human enterprise. It is part of the human condition.

I think the amount of fraud in SSI is likely to be quite small (but not zero).

Then again -- for years I worked as a Contract Manager at a defense contractor -- the DCAA (Defense Contract Audit Administration) had a charter to find FWA (Fraud Waste and Abuse) and gosh darn if they didn't find it, they might lose their job -- which is something of its own FWA. So I have sympathy for those painted with a fraud brush.

My wife used to write disability evaluations as a Psychiatrist (in addition to her regular practice), she was quite good at it. She also was good at detecting cases where the claimant was at the very least 'pushing the disability envelope' -- which did (and does) happen. The thing is, filtering for this does happen at multiple levels, and by the time it rises to a claim of fraud at SSI, it has already been passed by evaluators at lower levels as well.

Yeah, I concur, SSA is tough, but once in they want to be helpful. Me I use a spellchecker, it doesn't catch everything, like subtle spelling errors or such, but Google helps with what the spellchecker can't catch.

from the medical stand point abusers tend to know "the" doctor that will give them a pass to get the SSI or SSDI. Most Doctors see the fraudsters coming a mile away and just shut them down.

That I wouldn't know of, but then some see large amounts of fraud in SSI, people have hidden problems that aren't obvious, joint damage, osteoarthritis, mental problems cause of some real problem in the brain, like a bruised brain from a car accident or an under performing thyroid, severity is also gauged. Some people like to to think they know what their talking about, even though they have no proof at all and are merely jealous or bigoted and some are probably borderline psychopaths.

I'm all in favor of these Programs. They are de facto Stimulus Programs and any means to help The Economy is a good thing.

Trillions and Trillions pumped into The Economy. Most of this money is Spent as soon as it is received and that is what Economists Want to see.

So a Good Deal all around.

Dull, but Stimulated
