Can Boinc take advantage of say a six or eight AMD CPU?

Great! Other than the CPU & GPU does any other components matter that much? Such as how much ram the computer has?

Looks like you are throwing out nothing but errors on your desktop. I would suggest you try downloading and installing the program again. Make sure you use the one for the 64 bit operating system.

As to your other question, yes, the amount of RAM could effect you but I doubt that is the problem you are seeing right now. Also, your power supply could cause problems if it is not enough to run your system and your GPU. That could show up later after you get everything running right. On a fairly new system I doubt if either one of those would give you much of a problem though.

Overclocking can be a problem if done too aggressively. Even if your video games and OS seem stable, SETI uses much longer chains of computations and single bit errors can propagate dramatically.
