Three out of the top five threads are at best about quasi science. UFO's, aliens building pyramids and etc. It makes me wonder about the people who support the SETI@home project. The scientific method is all about answering questions, not about the absolute truth. There's nothing other than Occam's razor to contradict many of the ideas being discussed. 70 years ago, plate tectonics was not believed by most geophysicists. 10 years ago most cosmologists believed that the expansion of the universe was decreasing. New measurements any day may disprove old accepted theories and cause seemingly less likely theories to become accepted. Joe |

Bob DeWoody, Interesting topic! Firstly - I take it from the name of the topic and the tone of your message post that you disapprove of people discussing stuff in the "SETI science" forum that is not "pure SETI science". Bob you should elaborate. I'm pretty open minded. Secondly - This project says on its front page that its "Searching for Extraterrestrial Intelligence", thats what SETI is! SETI is trying to find any life other than the life we know here on earth. Well i think chatting about the possibility that Extraterrestrials may have visited earth in our past fits that category very well. And if UFO's are visiting this planet, that also fits the category of "Searching for Extraterrestrial Intelligence". Thirdly - As Gary Charpentier just said, just connecting your computer to the project is all the project scientists are looking for. The project scientists don't care what people talk about on the forums because they rarely read any messages here. So its up to the participants what they want to discuss and in which forum. Fourthly - As for supporting the project Bob, your the only one who has posted here so far that does not have a green star. Fifthly - Bob, your avatar looks like "Taggart", one of the Cops in the Eddy Murphy movie "Beverly Hills Cop". The actors name is John Ashton; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Ashton_(actor). Just thought i would mention that, its been on my mind. I like Taggart in that movie! John. |

Regarding your fourth point. In 2010 I moved away from where I joined the Seti@home project at it's beginning and due to a screw up on my part I lost all of the credits I had accumulated since the year 2000. I tried to see if there was a way my previous contributions could be retrieved and consolidated with my current total. But I was informed that there is no mechanism in BOINC to perform such a task. So I still have another identity here with the bulk of the record of my contribution. I also confess that I have little or no belief in the theories that our ancient ancestors had outside help in the building of the aincient world. Men were just as smart then as they are now and it seems to me that it is much more likely that the methods and skills of those people got lost during some of the darker periods of man's past. So I think that discussing ways and means of improving our detection skills and applying those improvements to the SETI project have a better chance of finding ET than speculation about ancient visitations. It really is all down to what we know for certain. Science is backed up by factual documents. The whole ET topic has little if any certain facts in the public domain. However, what keeps me interested and totally hooked, is our sun is one of hundreds of billions in our galaxy which in turn is one among hundreds of billions of galaxies, therefore it is a simple matter of statistics that saying we are alone in the cosmos is in my opinion total bunkum. Other sentient life HAS to exist, it is a statistical certainty that this is so. Maybe earth has been visited, or is currently being visited covertly by an off world intelligence, I can't provide any proof, nor can anyone else. We also rely on religious doctrines for details of our origin, but I have a feeling that our origins and the alleged et visitations are somehow connected. Again I have no proof, and this feeling is NOT based on sci-fi tv. If I'm asked to speculate about the past, I consider the total wipeout of the dinosaurs as totally suspicious. To selectively remove a species as established as the dinosaurs were, while others that lived in similar environments survived, I think is very strange. If this were the result of natural catastrophe, nothing would have survived and the entire biological clock would have been totally reset. I can accept hibernating or subterranean mammals surviving, but not reptiles similar to dinosaurs. And then we have the birds with their shared dinosaur lineage. Again, and this is totally speculative, it is as if the earth was sanitised to allow mammals to gain an evolutionary lead. I can also tell you this, I carry a small HD camera with me constantly, and if I ever see anthing ET related, I will be in a position to record it, properly and vividly. I urge others to do similar. Someone already claims to have this but is looking for £2,000,000 on ebay for the footage. First time I post on here in a while, I agree with you. I carry my camera also. I live in Miami so being close to the Bermuda triangle is pretty cool. I like the story in Ancient Aliens where he was flying from the Bahamas back to Miami. They entered they strange electric funnel spinning counter clock wise. When he contacted the tower the could not find him on radar. When he did come up he was already in Miami. The flight should of taken him 1 hour and 3 mins and he got to Miami here in 32 mins. More like a worm hole. So I am saying the possibilities of ET visiting is high. There are places here on earth that cant be explained. |

We also rely on religious doctrines for details of our origin No, most religious doctrines that we follow now have only been written within the last 5,000 years. Anyone looking at documents for our origins from only 5,000 years ago is clearly looking in the wrong places. In fact, when looking for our origins, archeology seems to be the best way to go. Dig up artifacts and send them back to a lab to be analyzed by trained professionals. Then you need to re-read the existing theory. The great impact that we suspect wiped out the dinosaurs is only speculated to have wiped out most of the life on the planet, but not all. Anything as large as a dinosaur would obviously be the first to go. This explains why some organisms were able to survive the impact while many weren't. I can accept hibernating or subterranean mammals surviving, but not reptiles similar to dinosaurs. And then we have the birds with their shared dinosaur lineage. The universe is full of chaos. The problem with the human species is that we tend to favor control so we tend to try to find explanations in chaos by making assumptions without any supporting evidence, then we put a belief so strong in the theory that nothing allows us to change our minds save for those of us willing to let the data lead us to the conclusion and no the other way around. |

The problem with stories like this is that they enter into folklore by following a suspended path of logic. Similarly to the old stories of shapeshifters and werewolves, people would see a human enter the jungle and watch a wolf come out and draw a conclusion from that. The problem is, when replicated for verification, none of these stories ever hold up. This holds true for every place on Earth, since the laws of physics never cease on any part of it. |

The Bermuda triangle has no more wrecks than any other comparable area of ocean where storms, hurricanes or Typhoons are commonplace. |

I think the most fascinating one is in Nasca Peru The whole top mountain is made flat and it look like a run way for aircraft (or spacecraft) thousands years ago. Even today with the available of heavy machine no one has ever try to create the same flat landscape on top of mountain. And what a coincidence, there are stories in Exodus talk about the 'Lord' came down from the sky and they like to land on top of mountain! Exodus 19:20 "Then the Lord came down on to Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain," note: image above is from a website that i search by using yahoo.com Ok, the top of mount Sinai is not flat but with a spaceship power by rocket boosters and spider like legs then they can land on any rocky mountain but rocket boosters consume a lot energy and it produce flame, fire, smoke and loud thunder like sound. Exodus 19:18 "And all the mountain of Sinai was smoking, for the Lord had come down on it in fire: and the smoke of it went up like the smoke of a great burning; and all the mountain was shaking." With a flat top mountain than they can land with the wing type aircraft which consume less power less noise and easier to land. It look like they have different type of flying machine just like us today. |

Not unlikely that it was man-made, like the pyramids. But of course, since we see a long, flat top, we automatically associate that with an airplane landing strip, because that's what is most familiar to us. Just like the Egyptian hieroglyphics, that may not be what was intended, but don't let that stop anyone from jumping to conclusions and assuming incorrectly. Otherwise, I suppose the Cerne Abbas Giant actually exists in that mountain. Maybe he was left there by ancient aliens? |

Ozzfan, I'm glad to see your changing your mind and now your starting to join in the fun. Ozzfan i knew all along you were an Ancient Alien fan at heart!! Its ok Ozzfan if you were just embarrassed to admit it. But now that you have "come out of the closet" so to speak, you can now speak more freely about your fascination with ancient alien theory!! Good to have you on board Ozzfan! [LOL] Ancient ET, Some really great quotes from the Bible there!! Thats some really good solid evidence for ancient aliens!! Its undeniable that that thing is an aircraft runway built thousands of years ago. Good work Ancient! John. |

Neither account above has any evidence whatsoever of ET activity upon earth in their creation. But .... this image below is definitely created by ET, OMG. Proof we have been visited! It is indisputable. We must bow down to these gods. Now as to that flat top, did anyone find where the dirt was hauled off to? Anyone checked to see if there were a bunch of seeds planted there so the spaceships could use a grass airstrip? Because I don't think a big cornfield would be the right thing to land a complex spaceship in. |

Apparently I think I can hear a couple of chimes and chords this evening. I have the separate BoincLogX program running keeping me informed about things as they progress. Two tasks in the running right now. It sounds chimes.wav for Yellow alert and chord.wav for Red alert. Now I first heard the Yellow one, following up with several Red ones as well. It does not show up in the numbers though. I will keep a tab on it. It would be nice to possibly have something showing up. If I ever should get something, would it be the first time it did? |

You are concerned that the alerts you've received via BOINCLogX aren't showing up in the numbers, but you haven't explained why you think BOINCLogX is giving you accurate alerts. |

LOL, the alerts in BoincLogX are for cache level. There's a setting for each in terms of hours of work left. Unfortunately there have been many changes to BOINC since the program was last updated, so it doesn't really know how much time the remaining work will take. Joe |
