I've an iMac G4 running Debian (squeeze) and everything's fine except running BOINC.

Note that boinc DOES run (as a daemon) and I can control it just fine through

/etc/init.d/boinc-client start
/etc/init.d/boinc-client stop

and then open BOINC manager, not an issue, it runs and reads my configs and permissions ARE correct, I made sure of it (chown boinc /var/lib/boinc-client/whateverstuff)

I wasn't able to post in the number crunching forum for some reason, but wanted to know why the 3 ppc-unknown-linux apps I got from Dotsch.de - both astropulses and setiathome527 - will not get work.

Oh and BOINC says this upon launching the manager:

Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Starting BOINC client version 6.10.58 for powerpc-linux-gnu
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Config: GUI RPC allowed from:
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Libraries: libcurl/7.21.0 OpenSSL/0.9.8o zlib/1.2.3.4 libidn/1.15 libssh2/1.2.6
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Data directory: /var/lib/boinc-client
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Processor: 1 PowerMac 7455 [Model 0 ]
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Processor: 256.00 KB cache
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Processor features: altivec
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT OS: Linux: 2.6.32-5-powerpc
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Memory: 1.48 GB physical, 3.08 GB virtual
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Disk: 70.33 GB total, 63.28 GB free
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT Local time is UTC -4 hours
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT No usable GPUs found
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT	SETI@home	Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
Fri 14 Oct 2011 11:49:10 AM EDT	SETI@home	URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 6201540; resource share 100

So that's fine. Right? It's not giving any errors (anymore) since I fixed a minor typo...

But then when I go ask for work, I only see this:

Fri 14 Oct 2011 12:23:07 PM EDT	SETI@home	update requested by user
Fri 14 Oct 2011 12:23:07 PM EDT	SETI@home	Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
Fri 14 Oct 2011 12:23:07 PM EDT	SETI@home	Not reporting or requesting tasks
Fri 14 Oct 2011 12:23:09 PM EDT	SETI@home	Scheduler request completed

confused here. Any ideas?

confused here. Any ideas?

Did you set "No new tasks" in the Projects tab of BOINC manager? (What does the Status column tell?)

No, it's set to allow new tasks. I know how to use BOINC in general, but using anonymous platform esp. on PPC Debain is completely foreign to me.

So given all my knowledge of BOINC, it SHOULD work, but I must have messed up somewhere..

If the Status column is really empty, I can only guess it's something with your app_info.xml.

It should be, you will most likely need one of the newer builds though.
