We are there now. There's nothing there as far as SETI is concerned. How long to enter another star system. You will be long gone by then.

Darn, I was hoping to stay around for the end.

Good article from Time.

After 34 Years in Space, the Voyager Spacecraft Fly On — and On and On

Another good read Lynn. One day we will possess the technology to fly off
into outer space thence be able to retrieve these two Voyagers. Bring them
back as our heroes to early space technology....one day.

I agree with Nick,
In time we will have the technology to fly out past the Voyager spacecraft and bring them back if we choose. But even when that happens, for sentimental reasons, i bet we will leave the Voyager's continue on their lonely journey through the depths of space.

John.

I always wondering if the V'ger/human combining at the end of STMP was intended to be the beginning of the BORG collective

According to the Borg Queen, the species known as the Borg started out as normal lifeforms without any cybernetic enhancements thousands of centuries ago. Over the years, they evolved into a mixture of organic and artificial life. (Star Trek: First Contact; TNG: "Q Who") It is believed that the Borg originated in the Delta Quadrant, where they already existed in 1484. At that time, only a handful of solar systems had been assimilated by them and they had many encounters with a species who called themselves the Vaadwaur. (VOY: "Dragon's Teeth")

By 2373, the Borg had assimilated thousands of star systems, and the Delta Quadrant became their home.

Good thinking but apparently not.

In the Voyager finale, "Endgame", a version of Janeway from a future alternate timeline travels back in time to aid in Voyager's return to the Alpha Quadrant through the use of a Borg transwarp hub, one of six such structures in the galaxy which allow Borg ships to traverse galactic distances in minutes.

The future Janeway allows herself to be assimilated, delivering a neurolytic pathogen that disrupts the Queen's link to the collective, killing her and destroying the Borg Unicomplex. Voyager uses the transwarp hub to travel back to the Alpha Quadrant, destroying it as they do.

On the way, a Borg sphere pursues and captures Voyager, but upon arrival at Earth, is destroyed from the inside by a transphasic torpedo fired by Voyager.

Thanks for the update Lynn....more to come from the Voyagers I feel
before their days are finally over.

Hopefully our NASA MARS corespondent Chris will soon have an update
for us on this project too.

Nick, you are welcome for the update. The Voyager probes have to be one of humankind's greatest achievement's yet. I see Chris is also doing a fine job!

Super update again Lynn...In a way you almost feel that the Voyagers have
finally left us and gone on to stray out into the "Universe". They have finally
left us behind and gone on to, "Where no one has been before"

And to think that possibly one day, in a thousand years time, their found
wondering back to us again. Upon retrieval a post-it note is found attached
to them reading, "We think these are yours, found lost in space, returned
no charge and have a nice day".

Knowing our luck, they may have forgot to stick stamps on it and we'd have to pay a surcharge!
