What do you get when you mix a degregulatory republican legislature and a regulatory system guaranteed to look the other way when it comes to any state or federal regulation?

You get this

When it comes to major disasters at chemical/Oil refinery plant Texas is second to none. You can find fault with terrible safety records for the individual corporations like BP or you can look further and see that Texas is a big Numero Uno in lax standards for industry and the environment. Welcome to Texas. not just a "right to work" state, a take your life in your own hands if you choose to work state

It would help if OSHA or any state organization had some power to inspect a facility while in operation. Usually thats left to a fire marshall and that job can be had for little effort in rural communities such as the one in the original posting

when's the last time you heard something like this happen in a Union state? pretty much never. Heck I watched a show on TruTv(formerly Court TV) where they were showing the biggest explosions caught on film. 3 of the top 10 were from Texas.
