Reprise of the rules.

The winner of the previous round posts a picture and a question about it. Typically "where.

You may not use "tin eye" or similar reverse image look up sites.

Please do not use EXIF data from the image to help. (note to posters, please remove EXIF data). This can include titles and location data.

Please do not allow 24 hours to pass between clues.

Questions deserve an answer (with the exception, of course, of directly asking for the answer).

We will have to figure out how to deal with winners that go AWOL.

Clues may be text or photographic.

Contestants may use text searches to look for images (in particular images.google.com is allowed to be searched via text searches).

There is no rule about having visited a place. If you have visited a place (or not) and instantly recognize where the picture is, go for it.

If you post a picture of a previously entered place that is easily recognizable as that place, you get to pick a different picture.

Please try to choose a picture and question where it is possible someone else will know or be able to research your answer. For example a picture of someone in your family and asking for the name will be just impossible for anyone else to get.

PM The winner.

Thank you Sir William.

Oh dear this means I have to find a mysterious photo for you all to ponder about, muse over, and take wild guesses at.

It will take a few hours to find a suitable one....

OK, I've found one.

Fairly simple questions:
What city, where in that city, and what famous monument is nearby.

As a clue the object of the photograph is a seasonal object.

I know I am wrong, but it looks like something from the Pageant of Masters, in Laguna Beach, CA. Is it part of a nativity or Crèche?

Well you've found the season, but that wasn't part of the question.
Now all you've got to do is work out the city.
It a very old city, and resides in the "Old World" as opposed to the "New World".

Not Paris
But has a very strange relationship with Paris, despite being in a different country...

Re-iteration of the questions:
What city, where in that city, and what famous monument is nearby.

The season, or time of year, does not form part of the answer, but it may give a hint to the answers.

Yes - the city is in a country within the geographic bounds of Europe.

No, not Israel, so not Bethlehem

Try further North than Paris

But still France?
Or one of the Benelux?

North of Paris
Not in France, the Benelux countries or England.
West of Germany.
Doesn't leave much - Lichtenstein?

Err - I think your European geography is well short of the mark, Lichtenstein is not to the west of Germany, rather Lichtenstein is well to the Eastern side of Germany, and there a few countries that fulfil my description, but only one is the right one

Then you've got to find the city, and the other bits to the answer.
