I see the kitties were not too successful in their WU hunt while I was out for the evening.

I guess we'll just limp along and hope that some repair work can be put in place during next Tuesday's outage.

Work fetch still has issues even in the latest client. My primary host (GTX460) has no GPU work at all and about 20 CPU WU's, yet I see see it requesting CPU work only after the 5 min. interval, and sometimes nothing and I have to manually hit Update (usually to find there's nothing but sometimes I'll pick up a few WU's.) So been basically idle for over a day.

Also I don't think enough work is being generated, especially CUDA WU's to keep up with the demand of more and faster cards. Thought that there were all these tapes split and uploaded as an available pool to prevent shortages...

Work Unit generation is certainly below that needed to keep up with demand. I've asked "why" and the best suggestion is that there is a general lack of space on the in-house servers due to lack of progress within the validation/assimilation/deletion processes and this is inhibiting the splitters from splitting as fast as they should.
I guess we will have to wait until someone comes along and prods the appropriate button to sort out the space issue, then hopefully we will see an increase in the rate of WU splitting, and the gates opening a little - well maybe...

the problem is that the best single machine crunchers are starving for new work. but the people who have for example 10-12 machines with lower credit have push up.
in the real world more host = more download wu units, 1 host = small wu units when there is a problem with not enough wu units from the server.
simple 1 pc will connect 1 time to server for 1 min for example
10-12 pc's will connect 10-12 times to server for 1 min for example
more attempt to get work more chance to get it.

If you want to be sure, you've a filled cache, there are other Projects,
almost all, installable through BOINC. Especially for CPU, CPDN has lots of work ;-) . . .
Milkyway offers a mix of CPU and GPU work, the Double
Precision
is necessary!
Einstein has extended their search for PULSARS and Gravitational Waves, with success.
GPUgrid is usefull in finding/developping new medicin and helps understanding
diseases and cancers, any FERMI/TESLA system, Compute Capabillity 2.0. will
do these (BIG) Work Units. (Compute Capabillity 1.3, also works, IIRC!?)

To name a few, I like GPUgrid and they may play an important role, if our earth
is visited(/occupied!?), by aliens and alien- micro organismen.
(A bit far-fetched, but alot like, when Columbus "discovered India", in 1492.
Which didn't do much good, to the original population)!

SETI can only produce work, if a sufficient Radio Data (~1.4xxxxxGHz) Flow,
is available and can then be used to analyse these.
Earth- and Sattelite-bound RADAR and RFI, remains a problem, also it's
popularity among Distributed Computing and Potentional Aliens, which attracts much people, so it appears :)

/me Whistles and twiddles thumbs while waiting for WUs...

Btw, I was on vacation all last week and the systems in my lab have not been touched. They're just crunching along with a week's full of cached WUs...which are now empty.

Ergo, something must've happened during the last "Tuesday down time."

/me gestures at the guys who update the stuff in the SETI "closet"...

In the Projects tab, you can right click the projects and request a properties display. There might even be a button, but I can't tell for sure, since I'm still running BOINC 5.x.

Greetings,
Gundolf

There is a button. It's the bottom one in the 'Commands' group, that's the top group on the Projects tab.

There are two sorts of debt:

'Short term' - which is used to choose which task to run next. This is known as "scheduling priority" on the property page.

'Long term' - which is used to choose which project to request work from next. This is known as "work fetch priority" on the property page.

I must be thick headed... I noticed that about work fetch Priority in properties , I guess i was just looking for the word debt in it somewhere...
Sigh...

Thanks Richard and Gundolf... :-) ( and sorry about the name mistake ) :-)

That number in Properties concerning CPU scheduling priority , Just how is that read ?

If it shows a -1277.96 on one project ( cpdn ) and approx the same number on the other prolect ( Seti ) just without the minus sign in front of the number , is that hours debt , or min or what ?
In what format is this figured ?

Is there some limit on the number of times the BOINC client will request work in one day?

I still have only about 80 WU's both CPU and GPU in total on the primary, and it won't request work at all, just crunches what it has until it will inevitably run out again. If I manually hit Update now, I get:

26/09/2011 20:18:36 | SETI@home | Sending scheduler request: Requested by user.
26/09/2011 20:18:36 | SETI@home | Not reporting or requesting tasks

This is with maybe a few hours of GPU work cached, though my cache is supposed to be 8 days!

I've tried quitting and restarting, even changing the system clock to tomorrow, everything but resetting the project. Probably some INI setting but I couldn't find it reading the documentation.

Thats not the problem , there is a problem in seti that is causing a lot of problems... Hopefully it will get fixed in the next maint day ( tuesdays ).
We're all haveing pretty much the same problems !

The CUDA kibbles are arriving... finally building up a cache, so get while the getting's good.

Try to leave some for the rest of us! :^D

Glad somebody is getting at least SOME cache built up...

Mine is still DL 4 ( Cuda ) upload, report , Then ( maybe ) get 4 more...
No Cache to speak of at all...
Same with CPU work... get a few , after finish and report , get a few more ...
No Cache at all...

in Prefs , comp is connected to internet all the time , keep 2 xtra days worth of work... Not happening... LOL

Yes here Cache is going to be smaller and smaller too :( Its a older dual Graphics System on 9GB HSDPA Mobile Stick for seti. Alternative i have only Einstein on it, but this needs much more traffic then this 9GB :/ GPUgrid does not work anymore on 9xxx and 8xxx Series .. (for me). Hope machine does not run empty very soon :(
