Hi.

I´ve read all these posts, but I hadn´t success solving my problem.
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=64652#1114519
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=47791#773077
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=58808#970853
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=58738&nowrap=true#969340

I found that many people have this problem and have much information on internet about it, but even so I still have problems.

boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe are on firewall exception.
Router firewall is disabled.
Tried boinc with windows admin privileges and without it.
Boinc is set to always use CPU and GPU. Network(5 mbit link) is always avaiable when computer is on.
My username and admin username are on boinc_users, boinc_admins and boinc_projects groups.
Versão do boinc: 6.12.34(x64)
Versão do wxWidgets:2.8.10
Region: Brazil
This message is showing there are already 7 days

I formatted my computer and lost data of the boinc data folder.
Then reinstalled and was showing "downloading work from server." Reinstalled 2 more times and it worked.

I had to format my pc again but this time I left the files saved on a backup drive.
I installed the application, select the backup folder and is showing "downloading work from server." Reinstalled 2 times and it remains so.

Should I delete the entire contents of the boinc data folder, may have corrupted?
Had something else to be done to verify this problem? I have no more idea of what to do.

Thanks.

That doesn't look like a network problem but like an access rights problem.

Does the BOINC-client account ("zZzZz") have write access to D:\Program Data2\BOINC?

What happens when you download the files (setiathome-6.03_COPYRIGHT, setiathome-6.03_README etc.) "by hand", i.e. using your browser, and copy them to the BOINC data directory?

Did you direct the BOINC installer to the correct data directory (D:\Program Data2\BOINC)? Because the installer usually sets the correct rights itself.

Gruß,
Gundolf

zZzZz is on boinc_users, boinc_admins and boinc_projects groups.

boinc_users have read&execute and list access.
boinc_admins all allowed except full control and special permissions.
boinc_projects nothing is checked at collums allow and deny.

D:\Program Data2\ and D:\Program Data2\BOINC have all these 3 groups.

I took off zZzZz from boinc_projects group and added zZzZz username to those folders and gave modify, read&execute, list, read and write access but the problem still occur.

When I took off zZzZz from boinc_projects group it disappeared from D:\Program Data2\ and D:\Program Data2\BOINC folders security tab.

I found this page http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Creating_custom_installers and it says about a boinc_master group, should I create it? Or should I give all access to boinc_projects group and add zZzZz username to this group again?

zZzZz is a non admin account, I have to add this username only to boinc_users group? Could be that the problem? This username is in all groups.

Is this the correct url to try download the file?
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/setiathome-6.03_README
or
http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/projects/setiathome-6.03_README
It says "not found".

Yes, when I installed I directed to "D:\Program Data2\BOINC".

Thank you.

EDITED:

I found D:\Program Data2\BOINC\notices I don´t have access.
and
I found D:\Program Data2\BOINC\projects\setiathome.berkeley.edu I don´t have access too.

Should I have access to those folder?
I am asking it because I don´t want to give access and mess all.

Access rights to the projects folder needs to include boinc_projects and boinc_administrator with full rights, and boinc_users with Read & Execute, List, and Read.

The notices directory needs to include boinc_projects with traverse (one of the special properties), boinc_admins with full rights, boinc_users with Read & Execute, List, and Read.

The slots directory needs to include boinc_projects and boinc_admins with full rights and the boinc_users with Read & Execute, List, and Read.

The BOINC directory itself needs to include boinc_projects with traverse, boinc_admins with Full rights, and boinc_users with Read & Execute, List, and Read

Gundolf Jahn
and
John McLeod VII,

thanks for the help, was an access rights problem.

My windows os and boinc are in english.
I am from Brazil, so I set the currency and date and time of Windows to Brazilian Portuguese type when install.

The strange thing is that I had to create a group called "usuário_boinc" and give read, list, read&execute, modify and write permissions.

I did it because BOINC said in portuguese language that needs to add the user to the "boinc_users" group. But i already had did it.

The strange thing is that he said "usuários_boinc" and not "boinc_users". So I had to create this group and add it to the boinc folder and subfolders. After it, everything works fine.
boinc_users = usuário_boinc in portuguese.

I don´t know why it happenned, because it was working correctly before I formatted my pc.

I did a test taking off modify and write permission from "usuários_boinc" and it said "can´t connect to the core client". So I gave those permissions again, closed, opened boinc and it worked again.

Thanks again,

Hi.

Just an information that can help other.

I uninstalled boinc and deleted the boinc folder and boinc data folder.

I reinstalled and set up "All other users to control boinc" but not "Protected Application execution" because it says will not use the GPU.

I have an admin account and an unprivileged account.
Everybody here and I always use the unprivileged account for security reason.

Then I created links and put them on "Startup" folder.
So, it run correctly with admin privilege.

C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /savecred /user:ADMIN_USERNAME "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boincmgr.exe /a /s"
and
C:\Windows\System32\runas.exe /savecred /user:ADMIN_USERNAME "C:\Program Files\BOINC\boinctray.exe"

And I disable in msconfig "boinc manager" and "boinc tray" to not start automatically with unprivileged access.

Greeting from Brazil,
Stardust
