Ten years hence, my friends.

Reflect, Revere, Remember.

The Pierce company calendar, which usually sports a big bright pic of a fire truck and comments from the community that purchased it, is gray this month.
Just a smokey haze with the faint shadow of a fireman pursuing his duty.

As I am a man who helps build the tools that these valiant men employ to try to save others, I am both proud and sad to note this sad day in my country's history.

Perps, you can hide, you can run, but we are coming for you. And in the years hence, we have found and taken down most of you.
Think again before you wake the Great Eagle.

To those who gave our lives a name...
And died at hands so full of shame.
Your loss to us who still recall
that day of loss for one and all.
Your hopes and dreams stopped that day forever.
Our memory of your loss will never.

I was at work that day, and had CNN reloading on the screen as I was doing my work.
I saw the first crash, and everyone thought it was a tragic air traffic mistake or failure.

When the second one hit, I reeled in horror, knowing that it was not an accident.

Let us, on this coming day, remember those
who no longer have a say.
And think that we are better still
than those who bore us such ill will.

We have overcome, in part
the pain caused by such a terrible act.
May God forgive us if we wield
our guns today to give a shield.

May God bless and protect each and every one who was touched by the events of that day.
I think that covers all of us....

change is personal. I haven't changed a thing.

A recent radio news show I listen to noted that better than 90% of Afghanies have no Idea why the US is in their country or what Al Qaida is, let alone what the 9/11 attacks were. perhaps a bit of media exposure to these people would help encourage them to root out their Taliban and get us out of that country a whole lot faster

I will Never Forget, Not where I was, What I was doing and realizing that We as a Nation Had been blindsided for at least the second time since WWII.

It is an event like the assassination of JFK. Everyone will remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news.

I was unpacking boxes in a new house. I had not unpacked the TV yet when I got a call that just said "turn on the TV".

I remember 10 years ago, being at work, on graveyard, just shy of a few hours of me getting off work, when we got a call about what was going on, and we turned on the TV. I will never forget watching that 2nd plane hitting the tower. And as such, we suddenly had several SWAT guys surrounding our dispatch center, only way in was to show proper City ID, and that you had actual business there.

I was on my way to work when it happened, listening to a radio station that didn't do news. Nobody on the floor was talking about it, so I didn't hear about it until almost noon. Didn't believe it at first, but the office supervisor had the TV coverage playing on one of her computers. Wanted to be sick. Still can't watch the videos - just like Challenger.

It being Tuesday, I had to do Bingo that night. No question about canceling the session - life had to go on. Had crews from all 4 local TV stations at the Branch, looking for reaction. I didn't get any air time, but many of the Shipmates & Ladies did, as well as some of the players who were veterans.

My father (WWII Navy) wanted us to carpet bomb the whole Middle East, from Egypt and Turkey to Pakistan, with nukes. Turn it to glass, come back in 200 years. I know that's a wrong answer, but sometimes as I watch the news, or read the paper or Navy Times, I hear him in the back of my mind........

My Brother and I were living in Hesperia CA at the time, We were watching TV when It was on the air on the News, We were both hoping people that could would just get out of those buildings, Jim was a Diesel Engineman in the Navy(20 years retired @ E9 w/Gold stripes and hash marks, He always wore red as He just wanted to fit in), He knew what jet fuel would and could do, Those towers were doomed.

Yes I remember where I was then. I prefer to live in the present, not the past.

Alarm clock woke me up to the news and the first plane had just hit. Got up and turned the TV on in time to see the second plane hit. PDQ after that I was calling my g-man friend who at the time was on the counter terrorism unit at LAX. Woke him up. I know I went to work and there wasn't much to do and the phones hardly rang, TV was on all day. When even HSN was running news you knew life had changed forever.

The present is shaped by the past. I cannot look at any of the 9/11 footage without being overcome with a great sadness.

I was still at college at the time and had woken up after having a few too many the night before (no lessons that day). As usual I flipped on the news while drinking my extra strong coffee to get me going and what I saw.....Well, there are no words to explain my feelings as I watched what can only be explained as, well, I still don't know, unfold on the television.

Not sure what to say really. I won't forget and I'll light a candle and say a prayer when the time comes.

A poem I wrote to be presented this Sunday at our church:

Always Remember, Never Forget

We will Always Remember the Towers
We will Never Forget the Planes

We will Always Remember the Names
We will Never Forget that so many were lost

We will Always Remember the First Responders
We will Never Forget their Sacrifice

We will Always Remember the families
We will Never Forget their loss

We will Always Remember the date
We will Never Forget the Pride

We will Always Remember.....because we can NEVER FORGET.
