I can't seem to post to the forums, not with this account nor with my real account with some 80k credits. I am given an error message saying that I need credits to post. I get the message whether trying to create a new thread or replying to someone elses post.

What might be the cause of this?

The message is not about "credits" but about "Recent Average Credit" (RAC); and that has to be greater than 1 in most subfora, to prevent spamming.

So, you'll have to return at least one successful work unit and wait until it's validated before you can post (almost) everywhere at SETI@home.
