I have been slacking in my duties! I just went for a beer, and realized the Beer Drinkers thread had fallen away. It held over 200 posts, so it was time for a new one anyway.

I am slugging down a cold Budweiser, as is it what happens to be here at the moment. Certainly not a world class beer, but cold, fresh, and available. By a quick glance at my mid-section, one might reason that I have had a few of these over the years. I don't remember any such thing.....

Anyway, feel free to tell your beer stories, compare brews, or just talk about whatever is on your mind. Any beverage is fine, as it doesn't have to be beer. I'm in a lazy mood, and don't feel like mowing the lawn, so let the drinking begin!

omg if anyone in England sees that.. Do NOT try to drink one of those warm.. Ice cold in blistering heat is the only time it is tolerable.

I think I have an Alaskan Amber Alt in the back of the fridge somewhere..

You know, I do love European beers, but I am a bit Americanized. I like to cool them down before I drink them. They don't stay cool for very long, as I leave them at room temp until just before I drink them, but occaisionally, I will let a goblet sit for a bit too long, and it warms up. I will say that especially with the higher alcohol content of many European beers, the room temp is not nearly as bad as an American beer at room temp. Those are just plain disgusting!

Quick joke.

If you are a Russian when you have to go to the bathroom, and you are Finish when you are through, what are you when using the bathroom?

See what? I have it on very good authority that there are no Budweiser drinkers in my fair country :). Currently I'm drinking ice cold Stella while watching some CSI, to be followed by some BSG.

*looks at mid-section*

I guess I can have a brandy night cap when the time beckons :).

Quite a few seem to be, someone recently told me a fact about Stella. If the can has a gold top it was brewed in England. If it has a silver top it was brewed in Belgium. I didn't believe him (drunk at the time, as was I) until I checked the cans.

I read somewhere that Budweiser is currently the best selling beer in the UK. Locally brewed, of course. I blame it all on those kids today.

Didn't know that, I thought the kids of today were all into those blue coloured drinks in bottles. They don't seem to drink proper pints anymore. I had to get my dimpled pint glass's from France.

Best Beers in United Kingdom

The United Kingdom citizens have preferred ales in place of lagers for the past several centuries. However, lager beers have been gaining ground in Britain also and the sales of regional ales have been affected seriously by big national lager brands. Carling, previously known as Carling Black Label, is the largest selling beer in Britain, which is originally from Canada. Equally surprising is the fact that the Australian beer brand, Foster’s Lager, is in second place in the United Kingdom, followed by Stella Artois of Belgium and Carlsberg of Netherlands.

Ahhh, proper pints! What a wonderful thing! I can buy prime beer here in the US, but it is not cheap. It's about $14 for a pint of Chimay Grande Reserve, which is beyond awesome. After making a couple of mistakes, I came up with "2 pints good, 3 pints bad." Two pints of Chimay grand Reserve, and a couple of lower alcohol Budweisers, and I have a great buzz. Three pints of Chimay, and I'm in a blackout, and prone to doing stupid things. Some may laugh, but my wife was "extremely upset", sometimes referrered to as pi##ed off. I learned that when the wife is in that condition, I had best protect my jewells....

I love to play golf, even though I'm not very good. I absolutely love the 19'th hole. That is where no matter how shi**y you do, there is always beer. My local golf course is about 50 minutes away, and limits you to 4 beers. I aplaud this, as even with a full meal, 4 beers makes me have to pee. 50 minutes can be an enernity when you have to pee.

Equally surprising is the fact that the Australian beer brand, Foster’s Lager, is in second place in the United Kingdom, followed by Stella Artois of Belgium and Carlsberg of Netherlands.

And Carling, sadly, is very hard to find in Canada these days. They used to have ads on radio and TV where people would ask the cute bar maid for "Mable, more Black Label." This lead to a popular saying whenever anybody got a little too rowdy in the bar: "Get off the table Mable, the money is for the beer." Ah, memories of a misspent youth.

From ask.uk.com (emphisis added by me because that is the kind of guy I am). What it means, I guess, is nobody really knows.

The beer industry is closely guarded when it comes to sales statistics, partly because it is dominated by a handful of huge companies, such as Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller. Anheuser-Busch InBev sells beer under brands such as Budweiser, Stella Artois, Beck's, Brahma, Bud Light, Skol, Labatt Blue, and Michelob. SABMiller, headquartered in London, sells Grolsch, Miller Genuine Draft, Peroni Nastro Azzurro and Pilsner Urquell. Also, some companies report beer sales combining a few brands, while others report sales per brand. Finally, the measurement used to track the sales can be either monetary unit or volume (usually by hectolitres). Having understood all these variables, it is believed that Anheuser-Busch InBev's Bud Light is the best selling single trademark brand by volume, followed by regular Budweiser.

When the wife and I went to England and France I really liked Carlsburg. Came back tot he states and tried it here. Yuck, Only thing I can think of as to why is Americas waterd down alcohol content standard. Its like when i was in the service. New York was 4.4 percent and they sold 3.2 crap on base.

I have recently taken to Margaritaville Brewing Company's Land Shark Lager for the heat of the summer, but the one beer who's siren song I am unable to resist for any great length of time is Guinness. After I learned to enjoy beer as a youngster, it was and is my first love...

Proper ales have different tolerance to travelling. Many just don't like more than a few miles, even when bottled, while some (notably IPAs) will travel for many miles quite happily, indeed will improve for a "few miles under the barrel". In the case of an IPA this is quite understandable as its an ale that was intended to be brewed in the UK and shipped to India - hence the name "India Pale Ale".

Just enjoyed a pint of Fullers IPA - last one in the "cellar", so for now I'm being forced to consume some Fullers ESB. S-L-O-W-L-Y, at "cellar temperature" (well actually cold stone kitchen floor temperature). It certainly reaches the parts lesser ales fail to reach...

Ooooooh nooooooooo....
Seem to have been hit by a beernado here.......

I suspect it formed from a low pressure cell swirling around a couple of cases of Blatz that I loaded into the refrigerator earlier this week.

Storm front is almost passed....
I have vented much of the low pressure swirling around those Blatz cans.

God did give us barley.

Not sure who gave the specific instructions about what to do with it...............

Hmmmm.
Perhaps we should organise a real ale festival to show those on the wrong side of the pond what they are missing.
