Just casked all that Cider today, it did smell nice and I managed not to drink any, its all now safely stored in the shed, all 40 gallons of it.

I was tempted to immediately start brewing 25 gallons of Bitter, and 13 gallons of wine, but the wife wants the kitchen back after four months, I really should try and sort out that damn shed.

Now she wants me to fix the Satellite Receiver (probably a couple of caps burst), and sort out the bedroom ready for a gun cabinet (I joined a gun club since I last posted).

Busy, busy, busy.

Wiki tends to disagree with you regarding the use of the Union Flag on the Jack Staff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Flag

In fact, having the flag flying upside-down is a sign of distress, so any British Military approaching a British Outpost or Unit flying the Union Flag the wrong way will be very cautious on approach.

The wikipedia article had a link to the page about the US Flag Code. They're quite picky about that 10:19 piece of cloth aren't they.

In this country there's no end of Union jack hankies, boxer shorts, beer mats, mugs, the list goes on. No such equivalent in the US i take it.

Just simple logical steps.

I have put back on my Eagle clothes, and made my way back here. I am having a nice cold beer, as my long hours at work have finally ended. I am happy you all have been helping yourselves in my absence, but I have not really been very far away. I say that everyone should have several free beers!

I remember the first time I ever drank two pints of lager, so does
the pub car park that I spewed it up all over. Funny enough, the stomach
soon settled down after I ate something relatively new to us in the UK at
that time.......good old "Kentucky fried chicken and chips"

I remember being in a hotel in Birmingham. The restaurant was at the 5th floor and the pub at the first floor. At supper I asked for a beer and I was told "we don't serve beer", so I had to order a costly French wine. No problem, my firm would refund my expenses. Then I saw people coming out of the lift with pints of beer in their hands. They had bought it at the pub.

Youngsters today still don't believe that I can remember a time when there wasn't any draught lager in UK pubs. In the mid 60's pubs had Best Bitter, Bitter, Mild, Bottled beers like pale ale, light ale, brown ale etc. We all drank Brown & mild or light & bitter etc. The girls drank Babycham or Cherry B. Lager generally took off in 1965 and by 1976 reached 25% of all beer sales.

lager

Ah yes fond memories, do you remember this:

Quite popular as I remember.

@nick. In certain parts of the country KFC was available bout ten yers before lager came on tp.

@Chris S, I remember all that list and a few more that mainly don't exist any longer in Lancshire.

I am desperately trying to remember what I used to drink as a "young lad". All that comes to mind is "lager" in all it's forms.

I do remember going to the old BT training school at Stone probably about 1975 and being introduced to Samuel Smith's Old Brewery brown ale. What a delight that was! Still don!t see it down south very much.

Now days I admit to being a red wine man, with an occasional Jack Daniels.

Small world isn't it Chris, you and I could have both been at Stone at the same time!

I also remember the canteen used to open after the bar closed. Ah the sausage rolls and sandwiches and something that tasted almost but not totally unlike coffee.

I was there when then new bedroom block had just opened. Took a look on google maps the other day and those blocks are all abandoned and falling down!

Hey, your wife will put up with a gun cabinet in the bedroom??

She suggested it, however, there's always an ulterior motive, she wants new built in wardrobes on another wall...
