I'm a Senior Programmer analyst. I do Production Support. When there is a problem, my customers, the people in the company that use the computer system, call me.

Doing Production Support, you don't know enough to give an update until you find the problem. That is 90% of the work. Fixing the problem is the easy part. While you are tracing the problem, you are totally absorb in your task, its tunnel vision. If you come out of that coma, it will take you an hour to get back into it.

When I'm tracing a problem, I take the phone of the hook and route everyone to the 'Help Desk' to create a help ticket. There are 2-3 people, not counting my supervisor, that have a direct line too me.

Once I find the problem and code the fix, I will update with an email to the appropriate people. But not until then.

Too many people here are concerned about earning credits.
Chill, things get fixed and you will get WU's.

Can I suggest that instead of an ETA (which requires some work establishing a route to a fix and estimating the effort) why not post one-line description of the symptoms (what it looks like, not what the problem is, to save having to identify and commit to a fix) and figures for soonest and latest estimated times back in service? This woulde let you get on with solving the problem, while letting us know at least a little bit about what's going on.

Currently sitting on 676 completed WU's Fermi and CPU. Haven't been able to upload since the 18th. And was not able to get any scheduler updates between the 18th to the 30th when I got one scheduler request through.

Just thought I'd post seeing as I have over 600 completed WU's just sitting on my HD, my guess is that because they've been sitting there for so long without uploading that by the time I am able to they'll all be overdue and invalid and all that computing will have gone to waste...

You will probably be OK, if your wing person doesn't post before you do. Odds are they are bogged down as well. Read the HE connection problems thread in Number Crunching for a work around that sometimes works from Canada.

I post very little, but read a lot of what is going on. I believe it would be fruitful to post a one liner with status and rough estimate until repair is made. Many people are doing it for the science and many are doing it for credits. I do it for both reasons and am somewhat disappointed that there is no word on repair progress. I have 2 of my best CPUs with no work and some nearly out of work. I personally don't wish to crunch for any other Boinc projects. I only want to look for ETs

True enough. I'll mention that when they reset the he servers after the attack I was able to upload and report 733 WU units pretty much instantly. So yay for that, just need some fresh work now.

Jeff most of us I'm sure understand that with everyone else gone you have bigger problems than our curiosity. So good luck, and thank you.
