I was looking through my results and loads have vanished. All my results from Sept have vanished.Anyone else notice this?I used to have like 20 pages of results but now only 6 pages.I had loads pending and they have all vanished.

Edit- just read a post about this and it says after a while old results are deleted.Just thought it weird suddenly my 40-50 or so wu's pending vanished.Guess they all suddenly got credit or something.

Must have been ET coming along to confiscate them before the right position in space was discovered and before the Berkeley crew came out of the pub...

I noticed this too Rachel. One of my boxes must have been doing some older units that were sent out again (as one of the original 3 didn't return) and the results page deleted them as soon as I returned them them so I thought the box hadn't returned any units in the last 2-3 days. I still got credit though, just can't check them on the results page.

They're probably doing it to stop everyone complaining why didn't I get credit for this or that. If the units are gone from the database, you can't see what you did or didn't get credit for so you can't complain ;)

It doesn't seem to be deleting anything that's still pending, I still have results from July showing. Pending of course!

I noticed this in the same way that Ned did. I happened to do
an update to report one of my retread units (_3), and a bit later
logged on to check stuff, and happend to notice that the result
I had reported just an hour later seemed to no longer exist. I
was scanning for a unit returned today, and there were none!
"where's my unit?!!"

Then, I notice that the results pages used to have several pages
of 20 each, and now I didn't even have a "next 20" prompt.

So, it's a bit unnerving, and perhaps worthy of mention on the
news pages, but I saw none.

That's right - if results are still pending then they still show on the results page. It's once they've been validated that they start to get removed (after a certain amount of time since the unit was first assigned maybe?)

A wu isn't purged before "done", this means wu either validated or errored out, and all results is either reported or passed deadline. The Validator, Assimilator & File_deleter must also have done their job before a wu can be purged.

"Pending" wu can't be purged, the same with wu there some results still isn't returned and still haven't reached their deadline.

Not unexpectedly, the purging seems to have started at wu-#1, and after many wu now is removed from the database it also looks like they're trying to finish some of the "stuck" wu, by triggering new validation and now the validator correctly works with missing results this often leads to new "results" generated and distributed, but some wu will also error-out.
One disadvantage with these "re-surrected" wu is that they're immediately purged then "done", so can't check if got credit for them or not.

Now, now people, let's keep calm! I thought all this handbags at ten paces stuff died out when WU's began to flow again?

@Everette Dobbins: Before calling anyone else a "dumb a$$" it'd be a good idea to check your mathematics: '597 + 5 = 600' not in my school days it didn't!!!

@Kieron

just FYI...PoorBoy posted twice since Everette's (inappropriate) comment. The post totals are updated across all posts.

I still have 4 pages of results showing, some of them pending, some "Over" but most of them are valid and show credit. Nevertheless today I uploaded 5 WUs, they showed on my results page with granted credit and after a reload after 2 minutes they were simply gone!

What's up?

Nothing's up - the work unit(s) was finsihed with, the results have been validated, you were awarded credit and they were removed from the results database.

That's what's apparently happening now. Why they're being almost immediately removed from the publically viewable database is anyone's guess - to save space, to stop people complaining about not getting credit - who knows.

I guess you could say that this "instant" removal of the results files as soon as credit is awarded is good for the SETI project; with no results available to us crunchers, we'll have less info to look at and complain about

Too bad, though, as I was just starting to collect data that would show statistically that the credits algorith is flawed. My empirical evidence so far shows that Macs and PCs running Linux consistantly claim significantly lower credits than the high speed AMD machines running Windoze. Ah well, back to wood carving instead of hunting through results...
